San Bernardino Press Tragedy
By: R.S. Helms
On Wednesday in the minutes just before 11:00am a man and a woman wearing attack gear, and carrying long guns, and semi-automatic handguns entered a county building where 75—100 county health personnel were gathered to celebrate their annual Christmas party. The people were gathered in anticipation of a joyous time together prior to the holidays, what they did not realize was some of they would not leave alive
However, the Middle-Eastern couple had another agenda. Their agenda was one of horrific carnage. They fired on the unsuspecting crowd, killing 14 and wounding 21. The New York Daily News slammed the GOP candidates for saying we will be praying for the families, and friends of the slain, and for the wounded being treated in the hospitals. Of course, I believe that should be the first thing Christians should be doing, and continue to do; not call for gun control.
I have conducted many counseling sessions for those who are suffering the unexpected and horrific loss of a loved one, and I only know how they respond to the love and compassion, of someone praying for them, as a Christian Pastor and Counselor I not only believe in the healing and comforting power of God’s children.
I lost the superficial platitude of “I know how you feel” because there is no one, except the individual and Jesus that know how they feel, I simply would hold them, and pray. Praying is what I begun when I learned the numbers of dead and wounded, I continued as our Pastor led us before Bible study. I have been asking prayer for them during the day.
I ask my friends on the social networks, to pause and pray for them as well, and for those who are not Christian I simply ask that you respect those who do with silence. The families and friends are suffering unbelievable pain, and we cannot but imagine what it must be like, unless you have suffered a like tragedy, yet you do not know how they feel.
God does, and God will provide the comfort, peace and healing. Our
Christian compassion necessitates our obedient faithful prayers. Not a superficial platitude of condolence, then start to dissect the situation and start building a personal false narrative. I watched the news network (including Fox News) and was more than simply ashamed of our journalists and network news hosts.
Moreover, I will continue to pray for the families and friends of those who were so horrifically lost and injured during this Islam terror attack on the innocence of our nation. God Bless You.
