It’s Time To Make the Church Great Again!

Some backbone needed! … Apply at the Cross of Jesus.

As I go through the email each day, I have started to eliminate 95% of it, because the election is over and the people have chosen President Elect Donald Trump.  Nonetheless, the Mainstream Media (including Fox, TownHall, and the almost forgotten Blaze of the GB network), simply have the conservative Social Media, in most part simply going over the manufactured news, time and time again, and the more it goes forward the more fake it becomes.  People need to simply see that liberal socialism is in serious trouble in the nation, and just make a stand for making America great again, then simply commit to boycott the organizations and business’ that keep this crap alive.  If you do not react to their mindless stupidity, their evil values.  Stop watching the liberal BS on TV they will not win.

For conservative fundamental Christians, we absolutely must drop the anxieties of the world; grow some spiritual backbone, because the Church of our Lord Jesus is in serious liberal trouble as well.  Nevertheless, Jesus left us some wise counsel on how to deal with the broken church.

This is a sermon which I preached Sunday before last, and it brought a good response of true Christians, that I am posting it as an obligation of request.

Excited about what God is going to do with the Christian church

in our nation…

Sermon Preached by Rev. R.S. Helms… 11-20-2016– Community Baptist Church.  W. Monroe LA.

There are some things that Christians should not talk about in church, or so it would seem.  One is the vile godless condition of our political front.  It is like a septic pool filled with toxic poison, that draws wretched mankind to drink of that poison, thinking that it is a fountain of utopia, a mystical world of bliss and peace; heralded by the enticing evil wicked beckoning call of the Sirens.

The nation has been under spiritual attack for a long, long time.  and politics is perhaps, the number one thing that has been polluting the pool.  Politics has been growing more and more corrupt and vile.  But it did not get that way on its own, remember, this nation started out with an overwhelming majority of Christians, escaping the rule of the British Crown and the Anglican Church.  They came in hope and promise of their religious liberty, which became a stumbling block to the accelerated corruption of a progressive government.  The Christian values that put character in the very fiber of this nation. soon stood in the way of the political corruption’s progress.

The Christian church was listening to the choir on Sunday morning and for the rest of the week they were listening to the seductive call of the Sirens beckoning the saints to die in the septic pool of corruption, and that is what I would like to address this morning, and time is slipping by.

The intent of the message this morning is for you to look forward with an excited expectation of what God is going to do in his church across this nation, nonetheless, it requires committed and dedicated Christians to do the work.

It is what we may not see that is killing us.  From what I see, Community Baptist Church, is a wonderfully blessed church, we have a pastor who truly loves the Lord and his people and solid in his biblical doctrines – he preaches the word in truth and in the Spirit, the people are not all stuffed with narcissistic pride.  You, and look around you, you are real people who love the Lord Jesus, just regular people who love the Lord gathering together in such a sweet fellowship, and we are not alone, there are many more such churches just like us, we are of the majority in our denomination.  But sometimes, it is the things that we don’t see in the Christian church that is dangerous to us.  So, first the list of the churches of Asia Minor, two of which, Jesus had no quarrel with, he had no condemnation, only commendation, …

Revelation, chapters 2-3. Please. … if you will.

I love this church, and our Pastor Danny, and I find this church is more like the church at Philadelphia, only commendation, no condemnation, so this morning the Lord simply had me stop by on my journey, and give a caution, a caution to watch, and be very careful for we are headed for some good times and some rough times, as I believe God has something great for us to be part of, the revival and restoration of his people the church of Jesus Christ.

  1. Jesus gives us a warning.

The first three chapters of revelation is where Jesus connects the beginning of the end, to the end of the church age, that time from the forming of the church, which took place at the ascension of Jesus.  The seven churches represent seven actual churches, and metaphorically the church throughout time as it cycles through these conditions.  It is used for the local church, and each individual Christian as they are the church.

The Seven Churches of Asia Minor and what they were noted for:

  1. The church at Ephesus – The Loveless Church –loss of motivation, but mostly the loss of their love for Jesus.
  2. Smyrna – The persecuted church – good works, and poverty for Christ’ sake. – No Condemnation.
  3. PergamosThe Compromising Church faithful to Christ – but Tolerance of those promiscuous persons who taught the doctrine of Balaam and the Nicolaitans.
  4. Thyatira The Corrupt Church – Tolerant of the false prophetess Jezebel and her wicked practices.
  5. Sardis – The Dead Church – A reputation for life but, in reality, were dead.
  6. Philadelphia – The Faithful Church – faithfulness to the word of Christ… no Condemnation
  7. Laodicea – The Lukewarm Church – They were neither hot nor cold, and were sickening to the Lord.

These are the church conditions; the churches are both historical and typical.  They refer primarily to the actual condition of the several churches indicated, and now are intended to be used for the instruction, encouragement, and warning of the Church and Churches throughout all time; or the Church age.  They are the measuring plum, which God gave us to see what condition the Universal Church of Christ is in, our Denomination, our local church, and seriously our individual condition.

A month or so ago, I knew that this election would come down to one or the other candidate.  It would not matter so much who would win, because I was thanking God for whoever won, I just was excited to have it over, knowing whichever the winner, God had a plan for the outcome.  And now that it is finally over, except for the crying… God has a plan for the nation, and a plan for the church; both are opportunities.  Both, are opportunities of restoration, revival, and even more so another great awakening.

Should the election have come to a different end, then God would allow the nation to continue in a seemingly death spiral; until our people woke from their slumber or delusion and cry out for god.  But he would have the plan for the church the same plan for the church, either the outcome, Revival, to bring about an awakening – and I for one am so thankful that I have been allowed to see his mighty hand set to revive his church. – one could say I am excited in my thanksgiving because I know that God has a plan.  We chose who the president would be, but I knew, that God would use whoever we chose because he had a plan for the church, and a plan for the nation.  I am happy with the outcome because of what he is committed to do, and one of the most important to me, is he will protect our church.  He will protect the church.

The Southern Baptist Convention had a split in 1991 over the claim of theological and philosophical differences, this division started 12 or so years earlier with the ‘moderate’-liberal faction.  The split created the Cooperative Baptist Fellowship, and at that time it was called moderate/liberal Baptists. I will not get into all the Christian denominations in the nation; however, so that no one gets the idea that my beloved Southern Baptist Convention, is not without its share of liberalism, it should be known that our convention does have some liberal theologians, teaching in our seminaries, and in our leadership, perhaps it has to do with the political correctness that has been used to not only persecute Christians, but to get them to jump into liberal theology, or try to hold the flock from going liberal.

One thing I will say is that Jesus has given us the eyes to see, and the Holy Spirit has given us the ears to hear (spiritual ears), that we may understand and recognize what condition his church is in at any given time.  In America and around the world, we have more than a multitude of “Christian” branches, groups, cults, denominations, and that is why I am so thankful that God put seven churches at the beginning of the book of Revelation and the Apostle John as the journalist (if you will).

Today we still have the seven churches in the Bible, and praise God we have the Holy Spirit who quickens our spirit and convicts us into participation; not of this world but of the Kingdom of God and merely as sojourners are we, on our way home.

Now two churches (remember the church is the people), that I will briefly look at this morning.  I trust you will find a study Bible or commentary and look at these churches as conditions of today, and what God will require from his people to fix the broken Church, even if our church is not broken, we will need to pay attention and get excited about what God is going to do.  Then again, he may do nothing, except let us continue along the broad path, the Bible tells us that the broad path leads to destruction.  Personally, I pray for revival … revive us again lord Jesus!

I believe, there are people in this church, which are anxious … some a lot … some not so much, about not only the vileness of the campaign cycle, and now the unrest and vile thuggery of protesters.  I can understand, — it takes a special godly man like brother Danny, to project the peace of God as he does.  I don’t want to project anxiety, or fear – that is wrong, but perhaps hope in Jesus for those who feel anxious, and fearful of the future.  God is still God, he is still on his throne, and still, he will quiet the raging sea.

  1. The first Condition.

The churches at Pergamos and Thyatira, …

Pergamos: The Compromising Church.  Why should I call it a compromising church?  Well, my, my, my … it is a church that is faithful to Christ, nonetheless, at the same time is tolerant of those promiscuous people in the congregation.

  1. Please notice that Jesus is telling Paul to write to the angel of the church not the world, it is a concern in the congregation.  Not the nation.  during the campaign, some of the notable Christian leaders, were making it known who they were supporting, and some were condemning them for giving Trump a slide, or tolerating his sin… well, — Trump was not running to be head of the Christian church, … and, we are commanded to be forgiving, his sin of lust is a forgivable sin. So, ask yourself, why would a Christian leader publicly denounce, pastors willing to forgive the actions of someone eleven years prior?  But apparently, some are better than God and just will not forgive. They use words like tolerate sin, not knowing if Trump who is perhaps a different denomination (Presbyterian), and don’t feel he needs to confess his sin to anyone but God or like a whole lot of Christians don’t think their sin is sin. … but he could have done that at any time during the last eleven years.  I don’t know and neither do they.  One reason that we listen with the ears of God not those of some denominational leaders.  Although they are supposed to be our leaders, and examples, they at times sound more like Pharisees.
  1. b. King David, committed lust, he committed adultery, he committed murder. David confessed, to God, he confessed and repented of the wrong, and God forgave him and called David a “Man after my own heart” …
  1. The church at Pergamos, was tolerating promiscuous persons within the congregation. This is what upsets Christ is to have his church compromising the faith, and allowing sin to be tolerated IN the church. The condition of the church, was allowing promiscuous persons, and or false teachings, it was allowing meat sacrificed to idols, it was a plea for freedom in the church to take part in the idolatrous rites, and for introducing heathen orgies into the Christian ceremonies. The doctrine of these antinomian teachers was “the doctrine of Balaam” because, like Balaam, they prostituted their influence to the seducing of God’s people into idolatry and impurity. The similarity of this doctrine and that of the Nicolaitans is obvious; —- but that of Nicolaus (which is equivalent to “conquering the people”) is intended as similar doctrines is only conjecture. Fact is, there were two sects side by side at Pergamum is the meaning of this passage; and though their doctrines were alike in being, to control the people by the people’s compromise.

Church, we need not compromise on the faith, nor on the word of God being inerrant and infallible.  If you believe one verse, you must believe them all, if you fault one verse you must fault them all … oh well it is a good book and some of it may help me through this life.  That is the difference in conservative “traditional orthodox” Christian theology, and liberal theology.

The second Church of my selection

  1. Thyatira – The Corrupt Church.  Again, we have the word Tolerance – Tolerance of the false prophetess Jezebel and her wicked practices.  The church, condition, here projects the word suffer and there is a right and a wrong suffering, — a… the suffering of tribulations, or persecution, — and the suffering or tolerating — allowing a whole lot of wrong to go on.  The church at Thyatira had both, and the rebuke is aimed at the wrong.  The enduring of tribulation, (persecution) is commended, while the toleration, or enduring, of evil is rebuked.  It is not said that Jezebel receives sympathy or encouragement, but merely that she is let alone; her wickedness is left unchecked, and that is sinful.  It is not worthwhile to speculate as to who this individual woman is, she was there and she may be a person or a false doctrine.  It is my studied opinion that Jezebel is not her real name but a symbolical name of reproach, and what her actual name and status was we have no way of knowing.  Whatever, what is critical in this church is the suffering of this as false doctrine, akin to that of the Nicolaitans and to the doctrine of Balaam.  Whatever the detailed difference may be, all three made ‘Christian liberty” a plea for antichristian license which claimed to be above the moral Law.  And she taught and seduced.  This is an independent statement and not be made to depend on the “thou sufferest.”  In the original language, the word for seduce, and lead astray, is the same and used often in the ‘active’ sense, in Johns writing. Here it implies seduction into error of a very grave kind.  Be it fornication (literally) or metaphorically to mean spiritual sense of idolatry.  The Christian church needs to look at itself, and not fail Christ by allowing false doctrines and worldly influence and persecution to corrupt the foundations of our faith.

In closing,

  1. Please remember, that compromise leads to corruption, and vice-versa, and as the church we must look past the plea of liberalism as Christian liberty; Christian compassion and tolerance, and hold fast to the doctrines of the word of God; if we compromise on one doctrine of the Bible we corrupt the whole thing. And that relates to our salvation by grace alone, in faith on the work of our Lord Jesus. You, yes each professing born again Christian must affirm the Bible as being the very word of God, without error — being infallible in its instruction and teaching, which is interpreted by the Holy Spirit…  and so far it is still valid in the Southern Baptist Statement of Faith. … what you need to do is examine yourself and our church, and other churches and denominations to see if that is in their personal and church statement of faith.  If it is not? Then why not?  Where did you first compromise on your Christian faith?  And why? … has the liberal world intimidated you to compromise on the Word of God?  … thank God he is a God of second, third, fourth, 7 times 70 forgiving grace.  Do not be afraid of the liberal world calling you hurtful names, and slandering you and your faith!  It is time to pick up your cross and grow a backbone and stand firm in the faith of the Apostles!  A bunch of liberal theologians, preachers of false prophecy, teachers of false doctrine, are not going to intimidate me!  I will stand unto my death for the cause of Jesus and the justice of God … my faith in ‘the faith’ in the belief and conviction of the Holy Ghost on my heart.

Folks … we must fix The church — starting with me, then our church, then the universal church. it is broken and only God can fix it, but he will use only the willing, committed Christian the true disciple of Christ.  The nation is badly broken, and it will take God, working through Trump, and a willing congress to fix it and make it great again; and it cannot happen unless the church goes into revival and sets the stage for a great awakening,  when the delusional and misled people see God at work restoring His church, cleansing it from the liberal theological lies.  then it can happen, and God will heal our land.

My sincere caution to our church is to examine ourselves, and cling to the Bible as our authority, it is inerrant and infallible and we are to test any other doctrines and church traditions by the scripture. We need to prepare our hearts for true Christian revival, unity, and the authority of God’s word.  God said you are either with me or you are against me.  There is no middle ground, you are not to be luke warm, or simply halfway committed to Jesus, it is critically important that each of us have a personal love relationship with Jesus, and if you have never surrendered to Jesus, if you have never known that personal love relationship with him, please take care of that business right now, you don’t know when we will be taken; and that will be too late.  It is that urgent, and such a simple free thing to do. I will open the alter for you to come and pray, or to take care of business with God.

Deacon of the Week, would you please close in Prayer for us all.

My Upcoming Book

In The World – Not – Of The World

The priestly prayer of Jesus as we read it in John. 17: 1–26, however, verses 14—26, tell the story of what is meant by in the world but not in the world.

John 17Authorized (King James) Version (AKJV)

17 These words spake Jesus, and lifted up his eyes to heaven, and said, Father, the hour is come; glorify thy Son, that thy Son also may glorify thee: as thou hast given him power over all flesh, that he should give eternal life to as many as thou hast given him. And this is life eternal, that they might know thee the only true God, and Jesus Christ, whom thou hast sent. I have glorified thee on the earth: I have finished the work which thou gavest me to do. And now, O Father, glorify thou me with thine own self with the glory which I had with thee before the world was.
I have manifested thy name unto the men which thou gavest me out of the world: thine they were, and thou gavest them me; and they have kept thy word. Now they have known that all things whatsoever thou hast given me are of thee. For I have given unto them the words which thou gavest me; and they have received them, and have known surely that I came out from thee, and they have believed that thou didst send me. I pray for them: I pray not for the world, but for them which thou hast given me; for they are thine. 10 And all mine are thine, and thine are mine; and I am glorified in them.
11 And now I am no more in the world, but these are in the world, and I come to thee. Holy Father, keep through thine own name those whom thou hast given me, that they may be one, as we are. 12 While I was with them in the world, I kept them in thy name: those that thou gavest me I have kept, and none of them is lost, but the son of perdition; that the scripture might be fulfilled.
13 And now come I to thee; and these things I speak in the world, that they might have my joy fulfilled in themselves. 14 I have given them thy word; and the world hath hated them, because they are not of the world, even as I am not of the world. 15 I pray not that thou shouldest take them out of the world, but that thou shouldest keep them from the evil. 16 They are not of the world, even as I am not of the world. 17 Sanctify them through thy truth: thy word is truth. 18 As thou hast sent me into the world, even so have I also sent them into the world. 19 And for their sakes I sanctify myself, that they also might be sanctified through the truth.
20 Neither pray I for these alone, but for them also which shall believe on me through their word; 21 that they all may be one; as thou, Father, art in me, and I in thee, that they also may be one in us: that the world may believe that thou hast sent me. 22 And the glory which thou gavest me I have given them; that they may be one, even as we are one: 23 I in them, and thou in me, that they may be made perfect in one; and that the world may know that thou hast sent me, and hast loved them, as thou hast loved me.
24 Father, I will that they also, whom thou hast given me, be with me where I am; that they may behold my glory, which thou hast given me: for thou lovedst me before the foundation of the world. 25 O righteous Father, the world hath unto them thy name, and will declare it: that the love wherewith thou hast loved me may be in them, and I in them. not known thee: but I have known thee, and these have known that thou hast sent me. 26 And I have declared unto them thy name, and will declare it: that the love wherewith thou hast loved me may be in them, and I in them.”

This among other scripture passages teach us that we are not of the world (as Christians), we are physically present here and doing our level best to cope and move forward in the power and might of Jesus, to do our level best to be like him, in our Christian character, however, in Christ Jesus we are not of this world, we are of the kingdom of God, and sojourners upon this terrestrial globe.

One morning in November of 2015, I was midway through my usual morning routine of getting my coffee, and setting down at the computer to sort through the hundreds of emails, I simply skim them and see who they are from and what the news headlines are, actually only reading the personal and certain breaking news, if indeed it is new.  On this particular morning I looked over the emails, there was well over a hundred and I thought of how the enemy had sidetracked me from a book that I had started years before, and now, here I was stuck in a routine that was serving little purpose, except an occasional blog, and a lot of comments on articles.  I was absolutely doing nothing about what is so wrong with our nation, our church and the lives of our future generations.

The book, which I had been kicking around for several years is a book about circumstances surrounding clients in a faith based recovery program which I was the Director/Counselor/Pastor and the cause in effect of some of the problems and the characters who brought these debilitating problems to the camp.  However, over the past seven and a half years the nation has accelerated in decay, headed towards a horrific end if changes are not made.  Closely related circumstances are front page tragedies in an out of control anti American culture movement of government and liberal socialism.

By no means is it all one political parties fault, but the purposely exploitation of the citizens of the greatest nation in the history of time, by political forces who are mere puppets to evil ideologies.  Nonetheless, “In the World Not of the World” is by necessity priority number one as far as writing goes, two others are in the wings and I will deal with them when the time is more appropriate.

In writing this book in a non-politically correct style, I pray to show a bit of our history, our heritage, our values, principles; when and where we began to lose them, to change them, to eliminate them.  I do plan to name those in leadership and the intent of where they enticed the people to listen to the lies and false promises of a manufactured utopia that will never happen.  The liberal movement, Marxist movement, and the liberal theology movement against conservative politics and Christianity.

The obstacles which are the only resistance to an otherwise free falling great nation.  It is my purpose to do this in some sort of order and systematic method of alternating between our politics, social order, and Christianity.  For certain, to bring an understanding that God is in control, God can and will fix it, however, God will only act through the people to bring about the change in direction, to build the resistance which is needed to slow and arrest the free fall to destruction which we now find ourselves.

It is basically aimed at the Christian, especially the ones who think they are, and the ones who are not, but love the nation enough to want to do something about our condition.  Pray for me that the Spirit lead, and I do the will of God for His sake and not of my own.  I keep one thing at the front of my thoughts, it is what God has led me to do, then I realize I will not be real popular, I will be demonized, and the world will come against the book and me.

How do I know this, you ask?  Because the world hated Jesus, and He told us, that we would be persecuted and hated because they hated Him first.  I am not comparing myself to my Lord Jesus, for I am just the least amongst a multitude of servants in His house; I am only standing firm on his admonition.

Please take note, that this book is not to argue creation or evolution, it is to point out what is wrong with our nation, and corruption and evil that is advancing, nearly unchecked.  As I said, this is not a book that I would expect a liberal or progressive to pick up and read, it comes from an “evangelical” Christian perspective; the redefined, redefinition, of the redefined conservative theology.  Who did the redefining? Christians who were looking for a compromising church, and a theology that would not be demanding and not in conflict with the ideologies of the world.  One that would not be bullied, by intimidating name calling, where the authority of God’s written word would not be the measuring stick of acceptable practice and behavior.

After all, Jesus didn’t really mean that Christians would persecuted and hated by the world, did He?…  looking for a watered down gospel that didn’t offend and confront sin and man’s sinful nature.  Well they found it in liberal theology, which has nothing to do with modern liberalism, except they are compatible.  Perhaps that is the reason that once strong denominations like the Presbyterians, United Methodist, some branches of the more than 30 something, Baptist sects have left their faiths and went to liberal theology.  It has become so divided that the Christian church is no longer recognizable as the Church of the first century, you know, the one that Jesus started and was the foundation of. I have no idea how people of liberalism and liberal theology have such a problem with loving the person, and hate the sin.

Political correctness has become the standard of how people relate to one another, yet carries such a double standard with the liberals who promote it.  It is okay to divide the church down to three, which are fundamental, conservative Christian and yet they are the three not willing to compromise so the bully politicians can continue their attempt to intimidate them into submission.  For me let them continue, let them continue to support such a septic evil as Islam, and mock real conservative Christianity until the cows come home, nevertheless, it will not be the cows that come home, but the chickens who will come home to roost.  “For me and my household, we will worship God.”  That is the God of the Bible, not the moon god of Muhammad.

Basically this is the unedited introduction to my upcoming book, which is as I used to say in some of my sermons, “Where the rubber meets the high-way.”  It is a request for Christians to stop playing at church, and Christianity, Satan is not playing and is dead serious about what is going on, as all the evil of the world is inspired and initiated by him, and is the product of the world

What We Learn From The Wise Men

 Wise Men

Story By: R.S. HelmsR.S. Helms 01

The Story of the Wise Men, the Magi who traveled from the East, guided by a star, seeking the new born king of Israel, is a part of the Christmas story that has a variety of meaningful applications, just as the part of the Shepherds tending their flocks, and the story would not be complete without all the parts, it is sort of like a four-part play, being played on the stage of the world.

Nonetheless, we have Wise men, who knew of the prophecies of the Israelites, and more so the prophecies concerning their coming king.  They searched the heavens for a sign, then, behold… a star appeared.  One that they had never seen before, and strangely far brighter than all the others.  Guess it was one of those “WOW!” moments that happen from time to time.

The gospel of Matthew records this story as follows:

Matthew. 2:1-12

1 Now after Jesus was born in Bethlehem of Judea in the days of Herod the king, behold, wise men from the East came to Jerusalem,

2 saying, “Where is He who has been born King of the Jews? For we have seen His star in the East and have come to worship Him.”

3 When Herod the king heard this, he was troubled, and all Jerusalem with him.

4 And when he had gathered all the chief priests and scribes of the people together, he inquired of them where the Christ was to be born.

5 So they said to him, “In Bethlehem of Judea, for thus it is written by the prophet:

6 ‘But you, Bethlehem, in the land of Judah, Are not the least among the rulers of Judah; For out of you shall come a Ruler Who will shepherd My people Israel.’ ”

References for Matthew 2:6

7 Then Herod, when he had secretly called the wise men, determined from them what time the star appeared.

8 And he sent them to Bethlehem and said, “Go and search carefully for the young Child, and when you have found Him, bring back word to me, that I may come and worship Him also.”

9 When they heard the king, they departed; and behold, the star which they had seen in the East went before them, till it came and stood over where the young Child was.

10 When they saw the star, they rejoiced with exceedingly great joy.

11 And when they had come into the house, they saw the young Child with Mary His mother, and fell down and worshiped Him. And when they had opened their treasures, they presented gifts to Him: gold, frankincense, and myrrh.

12 Then, being divinely warned in a dream that they should not return to Herod, they departed for their own country another way.

Now back to the “WOW!” moment. The wise men saw the Star and had a decision to make,” hmm what should we do?” “Perhaps we should write about it, no, that would most likely not be read, and people might make fun of us…” I have it, we will travel there and take some worthy gifts to this new king, so okay let get our party ready invite the Magi who are interested in making a trip… Ah … how far did you say it was?”

I doubt if the wise men’s decision went like that, no not at all, they knew they would undertake an impossible journey, it most likely would not have been just three Magi on three finely decked out camels; but rather, a whole caravan, and they would be crossing the desert. Heat and wind, long distances between water and rest. Some scholars say the journey would have been between six months to two years.

They committed to embark on a journey, their guide was a star, and their destination was the baby Jesus. They wanted to see him, reach out and touch him, to worship him, and give gifts, they knew what their destination was, and the divine star to guide them. All though the journey would be overwhelmingly hard at times, it would be the reward of their destination that would give them peace, joy, and understanding.

The wise men knew where their journey was taking them…   might I inquire of you; do you know where your journey is taking you? What is the object of your destination? Is your destination Jesus the Lord?

With every journey there is a path or road that we travel in order to reach our destination, however, with this road there is many roads leading from the main thoroughfare, some are plainly marked as danger dead end do not enter, yet many enter and are lost. Other roads are marked as necessary detour, and will give signs to get you back on the main road to your destination.

The wise men detoured from their course, it was a detour of necessity, the customary protocol would be that anyone of high prestige, when entering another country, would go and pay tribute to the king, and give their purpose for being in the country, remember this was in Jerusalem and they were not yet to their destination.

We may find ourselves somewhere along a detour from our main path. Could it be, that the Christians along with the rest of America, find ourselves on a detour of necessity? The makeup of the United States has been changing for decades, subtle nudges became obvious shoves, such as the removal of Judeo-Christian values and ethics. The removal of any sign or mention of God from the public square, opening the floodgates to all kinds of social behavior. The global demonization of our nation, our power, our culture, our ethical values, our constitution, and at every chance our citizens. All of this is coming from our administration. The president is the most lawless, most anti-constitutional, most anti-Judeo/Christian values, most anti-American culture spawn of Satan that has ever sat in the Oval Office. Our President has willfully by intent and self-admission “changed” our nation.

Of late, the past seven plus years, we no longer are experiencing shoves, but rather, the shoving became hard pushing towards a one-way dark destination. A destination that will remove our sovereignty, our constitutional and freedoms, our personal wealth, land, and worse yet our personal freedom to worship as we see fit. There is nearly nothing left of the 1st and 2nd amendments, and others are being shattered. Our nation, like it or not, is in the position centered on an unstable keg of high explosives.

Perhaps a divine star is guiding us now down the road well marked “necessary detour”, or could it be that the sign reads “do not enter, danger and darkness ahead”? know this I am not going to let on that most is doom and gloom, for it is not, not until we give up on God. When all else is lost He is not. It does not matter anymore if someone is black, brown, Christian or not. It is time that we come together in one heart and one mind and defeat the darkness.

With the wise men, they ask of Herod where the new king might be found, and after Herod conferred with his advisors and they told him generally in Bethlehem, the city of David. Now this is another point. Herod told the wise men to return and tell him so he might also go and worship him. What do you think, did Herod lie to the Magi? Of course, he did he did not want to worship Jesus he wanted to kill him.

The President, his staff, the liberal—RINO, progressive politicians, have for decades been lying to the people. More now than ever before, the progressive movement believe the people are stupid, (I call it the ‘Gruber’ mindset), it says, you can lie and tell the American people anything and they will believe you…

Our national security is nearly nonexistent, open borders, gangstas and black racist charlatan ministers of bad theology, leading activist protesters calling for death to cops, and white people, tens of thousands of Muslims some citizens, some not. Millions of illegal aliens, some really bad, some not. A demoralized military, the Islamic Middle East is on fire, and ISIS “Islamic Terrorists at war with the United States, and our president would rather attempt to demonize anyone who does not agree with his Muslim refugee plan calling us bigots, than to address our Muslim extreme threat to our national security.

That is the road detour in which the patriots, Christian and non-Christian alike find ourselves, we are black, we are white, we are brown, yellow, red, purple green. We must realize we are all precious in God’s sight, and unite and reclaim our nation from the vile evil darkness that has nearly overcome us.

My journey, at this evening time of life, is that of the wise men, we have similar destinations, theirs was to see the king, to reach out and touch him, to worship him. My destination is not unlike many Christians to be with Jesus to reach out and touch Him, to worship and praise Him, to lay crowns at his feet, and to spend the rest of eternity with Him. That is where my journey is taking me. If I do not make it past this necessary detour, my destination remains the same, and Jesus knows where I am to be found, He knows my name.

So again, where is your journey taking you? What is your destination?

Merry Christmas from my family to yours

Spiritual Warfare… Serious enough for the takedown…

Spiritual Warfare 000

spiritual-warfarePerhaps one of the most common Bible study themes in print and in use today.  Spiritual warfare needs to be understood and confronted daily, it is one of the essential understanding for the Christian of all times, over the past 2000 plus years the Christian has been subjected to the battles or skirmishes with evil not knowing or understanding what is going on.  As Christians believe that Jesus Christ won the war that freed all sinners from the bonds of sin, we fail to see the validity of constant warfare.

Now as far as the nonbeliever, who mocks the Bible and the Christian Faith, you may as well delete the link, and start your own in opposition and mockery.  My prayer for you is that God forgive you for you know not what you do.  The purpose of this series is not to debate over faith, nonetheless, if you manage to get past the opposition and stick to it, perhaps, you may realize the truth, seek God’s forgiveness, and find peace in your troubled soul. (We all have to go through a time of reckoning).

It is my prayer that this series may awaken even one sweet soul from the slumber of luke-warm Christianity to revival and vibrant involvement in restoring the Christian faith in the world.  Jesus actually does not need our help; He could do it with just a purposeful thought.  Nonetheless, we are called to defend, and be warriors of the faith; and it is my contention that we are the body of Christ, which means we become His physical body in this world.

This study will apply scripture to what is going on in this world, and has been since Adam and Eve.  To be even more dated it began when Lucifer decided to be greater than God, and elevate himself above the Throne of God.  Good and evil, then existed, even the most avid Atheist will concede to this understanding.  Bad and good have faced off since that time, Atheist must dig deep to find reason not to believe this first little truth that separates.

Next, we must understand that while some would like to rile against the suggestion that there is a physical or material realm and a ‘supernatural’ realm and generally go into such a fit of repudiation that they accuse us of believing in myths and fairytales, to which I reply ‘what – ever.’

Here it is in a nutshell, the natural world consists of thing we can see, touch, smell, understand and manipulate,  (Jim Norman ‘ETERNITY, God… Natural vs. Supernatural WordPress)  in the natural, things are limited to things and conditions, (natural laws), which are in nature present or produced by nature with natural laws and elements.

The supernatural therefore indicate things and conditions, (laws) that contain all things outside the natural realm or order.  Now, it stands the test of human reasoning, that the supernatural realm contains spiritual characteristics, Dr. Norman also wrote, and I agree, “it is not likely we can learn much about spiritual truth by studying and evaluating natural activity.”

“If eternity exists it rises above all we can see and swallows the known universe like a huge whale gulping a single plankton.  If eternity is a reality and has spiritual characteristics, how presumptuous am I to demand that it be understood and interpreted in natural terms alone?  That is like studying the behavior of fleas to learn more about the nature of elephants.  How presumptuous is the notion that the natural and supernatural cannot touch each other?” “That is like saying we cannot be touched by a bullet we do not see.”

There truly is a “supernatural realm” it is the unseen, and untouched.  The natural being the lessor of the two realms, furthermore, the natural realm cannot intrude into the supernatural, however, the supernatural has the power to intrude into the natural.  Knowing then, that the supernatural realm is the dwelling place of supernatural beings or spirits, (good and evil) can intrude on our natural world and influence – even control the lessor natural laws.

In the situation of the Garden of Eden, we find the fall of man and the death of the spirit of man, and simply because the spirit is dead man cannot communicate with God.  However, God can communicate with man.  It is this supernatural natural intrusion that God communicated, or spoke to His prophets of old.

However, man could temporarily atone for sin through sacrifice.  We now live in the second and final covenant, the covenant of grace through faith in the imputed sacrifice of Jesus Christ find permanent atonement, and the “Ye must be born again” experience resurrects the dead spirit within, that we have renewed a loving relationship with God.

Now this I will say at the cost of being criticized, ‘if you are lost your prayer, or communication with God is in vain.  The only prayer God hears from the lost, has to be from the heart, and it is the prayer of repentance.’ If a person is lost, Satan has the right and authority to come and go, in and out and control your life.

If you are lost there is no such thing as spiritual warfare.  It is little wonder the Christian and the Bible are so hated in this world, simply because Satan does not like to give up authority and ownership to God.  Spiritual warfare is against the Christian and the Christian witness.  It is through that witness that the Holy Spirit works to convict of sin and bring a lost soul to repentance and faith in Jesus.  It is at that point that the human spirit is resurrected and Satan relinquishes his ownership.

Likewise, it is the point where spiritual warfare begins.  You may be one who says “God is love” and live with that, God is love, he is also a holy and just God, who by necessity, is God of wrath and judgement.  For example, we may look no further than the nation of Israel, set to wonder in search for God’s promise of a land flowing with milk and honey, being led by God through a pillar of fire by night and a pillar of smoke by day. Why would God not just take them straight there, after all, he judged their rebellion at the prolonged wait for Moses who went up the mountain to receive the Law, and the earth swallowed up many?

God’s judgement and wrath at work, nevertheless, he brought them to the shore of the river Jordan, and again they rebelled at the exaggerated report of the spies, save but two.  Judgement of His nation brought the wrath of God to the point that He relented from destroying them, but put them to wander for 40 more years, until all whom above the age of 20 would parish in the wilderness, it took a completely new generation to claim the Promised Land.

God continuously culls his children, from the nation of Israel and the old covenant to the children of today in the new covenant in Jesus Christ.  Separates the chaff from the wheat, although today, it is through persecution and spiritual warfare.

The war in which we are engaged, must be understood as primarily a spiritual war.  Good and evil, the primary cause is unseen in part, because it is spiritual and therefore it spills over into the natural world we live in.  In the book of Ephesians chapter 6 verses 10 – 13 … “Finally, my brethren, be strong in the Lord and in the power of His might. Put on the whole armor of God that you may be able to stand against the wiles of devil. … For we do not wrestle against flesh and blood, but against the principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this age, against spiritual hosts of wickedness in heavenly places.”

This is where the spiritual war spills over and intrudes the natural realm, this globe, and the humans, which inhabit it.  First, we notice that the Apostle wakes up the audience and brings them together.  God through Paul is saying “WAKE UP” because now this war is in your laps.  Of course, there are good people who are aware that wrong is wrong, if they believe or not, but have bought into the lies, from the pits of hell, and are in a slumber while for the past half century evil has slowly crept into our little piece of the world.

Speaking to the Christians God is saying “be strong in the Lord and in the power of His might.  We as Christians have access to the supernatural power of God through Christ Jesus.  We are to put on the armor of God, so we can stand against the methodeias Gr. (methods) of the devil.  Primarily we do not battle against the other humans, because they are in the natural order and the weaker than the supernatural.  We do battle against the principalities, the rulers of the darkness of this age.  The world leaders who are under the control of Satan, through their human nature.  The enemy is by far the stronger; the supernatural strength is superior to any natural strength we encounter.  World history tells what has been going on from the time of Eden, I doubt if one can find a span of time when war has not been over greed, lust, and envy just to name three of the deadliest evil motivations for war (religion is the most deadly and still is).

Against spiritual hosts of wickedness in heavenly places does not mean a geographical or physical place, it means the supernatural realm it eludes to the spiritual experience of God’s people.  In the spirit we are at heaven’s gate, where our hearts are filled with heavenly thoughts and feelings; the statement before us is simply this, even in such a place with our fullest experiences, or humble service to God, we are not immune to the attacks of the spirits of evil.

I contend that the United States is a Christian nation, it has always been so, and it is a Christian nation with nearly every world religion represented among our citizenry. Over the past several decades that topic has been a cause for division and has been a weapon used to help persecute the Christian church.

Persecution of the Christian church comes in many forms. It has been somewhat victorious in removing our moral values from our nation.  Some of the values evolved from ideologies and not biblical doctrine.  In fact, our society proved some to be more harmful to a free society therefor paving the way for enemy to use sound doctrinal values as weapons against us.

The spiritual war has been going on since before the ink was barely dry on the Constitution. It in most part has been fought by covert warriors on both sides of the line, needless to say, the battle became more obvious at the end of the second world war, and a new weapon was laid in the hands of the enemy; the drive for global peace.  The role of the United States became that of the peacekeeper, and that has not stopped us from being involved in war.

Where the spiritual warfare becomes the bloody warfare is the leaders of the world doing what they want to do.  Of late, leaders are either displaying more of their evil hearts, or Satan is creating a major push in his offensive strategies because he understands more about his time coming to an end than we do.

Some of the “evangelical” Christians (myself included), are sensing a major event, and we are seeing the start of the separation of the sheep and the goats, or the sifting of the wheat and the chaff.  Could be a major revival or awakening among the Christians.  I have no idea, except I do not know the mind of God and therefore would only be adding to the flame of speculation.

I feel led to offer this series, so that perhaps one soul can see the urgency of the knocking at the door, and let Jesus in to dine and sup with him.  Maybe just maybe, if we understand just how real it is, and the real problem is mostly out of sight, but actually 90 percent of the cause, we can deal with how, as an individual, can do the most positive work …

The Lukewarm Church

By: R.S. Helms
By: R.S. Helms

This church, ‘The Lukewarm Church’ in my studied opinion, is the worst of the seven, as far as spiritually or the church doing what the church needs to be doing. Lukewarm, like the city where it is located, the people and the community in general, we in a comfort zone of life, they had the location on the ‘Roman Road’, and was a big trade center; it was also a center for medicine, and produced an eye powder and ointment to heal the eye from various conditions.

It had bad water, which came from springs eight miles across the valley, through an aqueduct. Some scholars say the springs were hot and held a high content of minerals being high in Sulfur, and became lukewarm while traveling through the aqueduct. The sulfur and temperature made it horrible. These same scholars claim that the city and water is where Jesus gained His comparison points. Nevertheless, the method in which I use these seven churches as inspecting my condition in Christ, we have a few more points to consider.

Revelation 3:14—22 “And to the angel of the church of the Laodiceans write. ‘These things says the Amen, the Faithful and True Witness, the Beginning of the creation of God; 15). ‘I know your works, and that you are neither cold nor hot.  I could wish you were cold or hot.’ 16). ‘So then, because you are lukewarm, and neither cold nor hot, I will vomit you out of My mouth. 17). Because you say, ‘I am rich, have become wealthy, and have need of nothing’—and do not know that you are wretched, miserable, poor, blind, and naked— 18). ‘I counsel you to buy from Me, gold refined in the fire, that you may be rich, and white garments, that you may be clothed, that the shame of your nakedness may not be revealed, and anoint your eyes with the eye salve, that you may see.  19), ‘as many as I love, I rebuke and chasten.  Therefore, be zealous and repent.  20). ‘Behold, I stand at the door and knock, if anyone hears My voice and opens the door, I will come in to him and dine with him. And he with Me.  21). ‘To him who overcomes I will grant to sit with Me on My throne, as I also overcame and sat down with My Father on His throne.  22). ‘He who has an ear, let him hear what the Spirit says to the churches.”’

The angel of the church of the Laodiceans. Some historians say this may well be, Archippus. Should this Archippus be the son of Philemon, he well may have been the Pastor of the church at Laodicea. This is in an attempt to identify the Pastor at that time. Then the authority of Jesus as the Amen, used here as a name for Jesus, the Faithful, True Witness, and as in the gospel of John, chapter one: Jesus being the Word, and Creator of all things, all that was created was created by Jesus, and nothing was created except by him. Jesus is firmly God, God incarnate on the face of the planet He created, and walking amongst His creation—mankind. There, do not be confused by the order of the words “The beginning of the creation of God’… God has no beginning, and has no end and is every present, transcending all time space and matter. God is the “uncaused” cause of all that exists.

This is who is saying what is said to the church. John, at the command of Jesus used his human hand to pen what Jesus dictated to him, it is the word of God written by the human hand of john. It is God breathed.

“I know your works, and that you are neither cold nor hot.” Jesus is simply saying..(my paraphrase),.. Dear ones, your condition makes me sick at my stomach. Have you ever had that feeling of being so disgusted with someone, especially someone one who just wants to argue, and will not listen. It is so frustrating they or it make you sick. Thus the phrase, “you make me sick”. It is generally a behavior issue.

Nonetheless, I can imagine this is what Jesus is feeling, if you are going to be my disciple then be a disciple and do what I want you to do. Stop just playing as if you are a Christian, and be one, stop looking like a Christian church and be one.

Studying these churches, one thing is apparent, the ones receiving rebuke have some common elements, they lose focus on Jesus and the spiritual things necessary to walk the walk, be doers of the word, not hearers only. They lose focus, they dabble in the things of the world, which they truly know they should not. The human nature is simply too deceitful and powerful for Christians to play with.

Three areas, which very well may lead to a corrupted spirit for the Christian. Money, power, and sexual desires. This was Laodicea, others worshiped several false gods, they were busy getting rich, and living, (the good life), or a depraved life. The Christians were trying to straddle the fence in a heathen culture. When people try to be both ways, the way of the world, and the way of God, it is not long before their lives reflect neither.

Here, the Laodicean church, said they were rich in their increase and have need for nothing; that reflects how the world thinks when they have wealth, and spiritual pride. This is sure the case, if Archippus is actually the pastor to which the letter is addressed. He was wealthy, and surely full of spiritual pride; his church was rich, and increasing, they needed nothing, nothing except the Holy Spirit, and making disciples, it was a forerunner of the ‘mega-church’ self-contained, and not in need for anything. Do not misinterpret this as to think I am against all large churches, I am not, however, I am against the concept or ideology of most mega churches; by trying to please everyone they lose focus on what the church is all about.

Spiritually, the church was stagnate no movement. The Christian cannot be stagnate, they have to move in one direction or the other; preferably forward with God. Jesus tells them they are wretched, (I love that word, it delineates so much and so many in the world today), God through Paul, tells us that we are in this world but not of this world. My question is, why then, do we try so hard to make the world love us? It makes no sense to me as to why I would want to compromise my faith, to accommodate the evil of the world. There is no legitimate reason, unless I actually did not have the faith in the first place.

This Laodicean church’s condition should resonate a continuous sound of warning to the Christian who thinks they are being persecuted, actually we are, but not like Christians once were, and are today in Muslim countries. We are being verbally belittled and mocked for our faith, and the heathens try everything to belittle the true believers, and to think it is okay to blasphemy the name of Jesus, mock God. They know that in doing so we will not push back, and their freedom of expression to do it, but the same freedom is not for the Christians. When they do away with the moral values that do not fit their agenda. Yes, I would suppose that moral values in the United States, are based on religion, nonetheless, they are the values that made us great, we were never perfect, the nation makes mistakes, as a nation we fix the mistakes and move on. As a nation with little moral values left, we may say with certain truth, we are now more of a heathen nation than we are a Christian nation; although, the numbers do not support it.

Jesus does not want us to be like the world, even the good people of the world, who simply wink at sin, and keep ‘spinning’ the same old things. There has been denominations, which have compromised on the Word of God, and the Christian faith, and become spiritually stagnate, even bankrupt. Let me tell you folks, Jesus promised he would vomit the vile lukewarm Christians from his mouth.

When the heathen and compromiser, attempts to justify getting rid of moral values by claiming we cannot judge people, simply let them know; that we are not judging them, because God has already done that; we are judging the sin. It is our job number one, to persevere in the faith, and keep doing the work of the church as laid out in scripture.

Doing the work of the church, under the direction of the Holy Spirit, is becoming more and more difficult, especially in the Western world; the rest of it is Communist or Muslim, except for Israel. Of course, after the dark ages, the Western world was Western Europe and the Americas. South America was the Spanish speaking predominately Roman Catholic, Western Europe predominately Roman Catholic and Anglican, (Church of England). The Reformation and Pro-test-ants, against the Roman Catholic Theology, not only separated from the Roman Catholic, but brought Reformers, and a few radical purest groups from out of Germany, Holland, Etc., the protestant Christian church was ignited and the flame spread.

Under the persecution of the Crown, the various Christian groups set sail to the New World, where they could practice their Christian religion without fear from the government, (The Crown); thus we find the various documents or covenants to declare there would be no interference from the government. The Christians were coming to settle the Colonies. Later the Declaration of Independence would give religion, the freedom to pursue, and worship as they saw fit, and that the government would not have the authority to establish a ‘state religion.’

The nation became the greatest nation on the planet, and although not perfect, the best in the world. To change it would mean to change the culture and to change the culture it had to change its values, they slowly did that over time, and the result is a chaotic heathenism rule as a minority.

As heathenism accelerated, it stayed and will continue to stay a “minority rule” not the democracy of Majority rule as intended. Now we have humanism invading the church, humanism is the motivation for compromise of the faith. We now have several denominations who have attempted to walk the line of humanism, and the faith, the result is they have compromised the Word of God, and compromised their Christian beliefs.

The churches, as described, (and they know who they are), should pay attention to this letter, and the one just prior. What sort of church does Jesus want? Surely the church that perseveres in the face of the humanist evil, and the world; keeps the faith while doing the work of the church. Of course, we may have some things that are not right, we are not perfect, but keep clinging to the Bible persevering in the world, in chaotic madness, keeping strong in the faith, and doing the work of the church.

Yes, I am aware of the liberal theologies, of course they have been around for nearly as long as the church, and the liberal theologies claiming to be Christian, is where I have my struggle. I struggle with how liberal theologies twist, and misrepresent the Bible, to change the meaning or do away with selected parts, or passages, which are essential to the proper Christian spiritual growth. Therefore, they create their own doctrines, and remove the ultimate authority of the Bible, as God breathed, yet penned by human hands. It is my studied opinion that when a portion of the Bible disagrees with ideology, therefore, it is not relevant or can be disregarded and replaced with man’s doctrine; the remaining, untroublesome doctrines must by necessity, be disregarded as well. My point is where is their salvation? If there is no biblical salvation—then are they Christian?

Those who oppose the Christian doctrine of Soteriology, (Salvation by grace alone, through faith in Jesus Christ), made by the free will, and with heartfelt conviction wrought by the Holy Spirit, not of works, silver, or gold; then they have not been saved, they are not justified before God.

The Lords words are harsh and justified for the lukewarm church. A church that claims to be Christian and is lukewarm will be vomited from the mouth of God. Yet God loves His creation to the extent of giving them the second chance, to be hot in the faith, or to be cold in heathenism.

Buy from Him, gold refined in the fire, is to say there is no cost the gold refined is spiritual and the cost is not going to be acceptable to all, it will cost you your life. Whoa preacher, what did you say? It will cost your life as it was; for the old life will pass away, old things will become new. The old nature crucified in Christ, and you will become a new creation, with a new nature.

The purchase of the white garments is with the collateral of your heart felt profession of Jesus as Lord and Savior. It is the white garments, which are seen by the Father, they are the righteousness of Jesus, who’s blood paid for the sins of the world, past, present, and future; it is important to know and understand personal salvation, faith, and the faith in which we are to persevere.

The invitation is for you to look closely inside, deep in your soul; is your spirit alive? If so, I invite you to examine yourself, spiritually; what is the condition of your intimate love relationship with Jesus? Only your truthfulness with yourself will make the evaluation relevant. You can lie to yourself, even convince yourself that you are okay—but you cannot lie to Jesus. Then you can make your choice, because no one can make it for you, not even God. Is Jesus standing at the door and knocking? Are you willing to open that door?

The Compromising Church of Asia Minor.

R.S. Helms 02

The Church at Pergamos (Pergamum) noted as the “Compromising” church. As belonging to a compromising church, or as compromising your intimate love relationship with Jesus, Lord and Savior, is doubtful what He would expect from us. This article might put pressure on us as to examining our positional relationship to Christ. What Theology does your church follow? Could it be, Progressive, Liberal, or perhaps Liberation, maybe it is still Conservative, Orthodox.

Let us see, what Jesus has to say about our compromise? Perhaps we are still fighting for the Authentic Christianity as built on the Petra, the mantle rock of Jesus, as He Himself intended. Jesus the Son of God, God incarnate never changes, neither does His church.

Revelations chapter two, beginning with verse 12; (Rev. 2:12),  12). “And to the angel of the church in Pergamos write, ‘These things says He who has the sharp two-edged sword:’ 13). ‘I know your works, and where you dwell, where Satan’s throne is.’  ‘And you hold fast to my name, and did not deny My faith even in the days in which Antipas was My faithful martyr, who was killed among you, where Satan dwells.’

14). ‘But I have  a few things against you, because you have there those who hold the doctrine of Balaam, who taught Balak to put a stumbling block before the children of Israel, to eat things sacrificed to idols and to commit sexual immorality.  15). ‘Thus you also have those who hold the doctrine of the Nicolaitans, which thing I hate’.  16). ‘Repent, or else I will come to you quickly and will fight against them with the sword of My mouth.’  17). ‘He who has an ear, let him hear what the Spirit says to the churches.  To him who overcomes I will give some of the hidden manna to eat.  And I will give a white stone, and on the stone a new name written which no one knows except him who receives it.” ‘

Again, the Apostle John is instructed to write to an angel of the church, the “overseer, pastor, bishop,” write this to the head one, the under-shepherd. Letting him know who it is that is authoring this letter, the one who has the two edged sword, the head of the church, Jesus, who has the ultimate authority to remove their status. In the instance where it is the individual, then what he is saying is repent, go in the direction of God not of the devil.

Tell this person, (do not know who it is, or I might call him something worse.) Tell this guy, ‘I know your works, and where you are… where Satan has his throne.” This is a major city; it has a library with over 200000 volumes, Mark Antony took it to Egypt and gave it to Cleopatra, so great was its prominence.   It was not about a library; it was sin, and idol worship of the city, accepted into the church, which caused Jesus to give his running condemnation against them.

pagan gods and various worship practices, each having their own sort of vile rituals, and doctrines, which the false teachers taught in the church, introducing abominations connected to the worship of Dionysus, and Aphrodite. It is considered why the mention of Balaam, who is the one who persuaded Balak to use sexual means to overcome the men of Israel; prostitutes to lure the men to sin against God.

Moreover, the sexual perversion practiced by the Nicolaitans, as a Christian rite of worship, the church compromised on the faith, the teachings of the Apostles; the church compromised on the very word of God.

Today, there are those in the so-called mainstream Christian denominations that have compromised on the word of God, it was bound to happen, as it became increasingly necessary to adapt to the progression of the liberal culture, whereby the re-birth of liberal Theology, Marxist Theology, Liberation Theology, and all can fall under Progressive Theology. Where the moral values, once founded on Christian moral principles; have given way to our social advancement. Values are now, simply created by the individual.

It has resulted in people who, when asked by pollsters, just say they are not Christian, or have left the Christian faith. That attitude in big part is formed because of the continuous name-calling of Christians who oppose lifestyles, Abortion, promiscuity. The demonizing of the Christian while promoting paganism, lawlessness, and the welfare state, of socialism.

I can just imagine what the letter would read like, if Jesus were to write one to the church at the United States. It would get rather ugly. I would not want to be one of the denominations or churches that have compromised the word of God, just for “political correctness” in avoiding persecution by name calling that liberals are engaged in … including the President of the United States. The commander in chief of Christian demonizing. Furthermore, they all say they are Christians.

Then Jesus tells them how to escape the judgment. ‘If you REPENT, stop going towards Satan, and turn towards God, then He promises them a white stone with a name on it… The white stone, which is mentioned, could be akin to the white stone given to athletes who finished a race, and were given a white stone with their name etched on it; guaranteeing them their seat at the winners banquet.

The true Christian has the white stone with the name etched on it, and only that person knows the name. It is the guarantee of our place at the marriage banquet of our Lord Jesus.

Jesus makes this personal to the individual; the one who freely chooses to repent and accept God’s grace. ‘He who has ears let him hear what the Spirit is saying to the churches.’ Jesus makes it personal within the church. Moreover, just what is the Spirit saying to the churches? Presented here, an opportunity for Christians to truthfully examine their position with Christ. You may recall, (I have a tendency to be quite redundant on this), ‘you can lie to me, you cannot lie to Jesus, and if you are lying to yourself … shame on you because you are in deep trouble…

He who has ears, is simply meant for the true Christian, it is limited to ‘spiritual’ ears; that you are able to hear what the Spirit is saying. So much of the time, we think it means everyone… not so; those who are without Christ cannot hear what the Spirit says to us. They cannot understand verses in the Bible, (outside of literally). Perhaps that is why it is so hard to communicate to heathens, because they hear what you are saying but they cannot hear what the Spirit is saying, or calling, or convicting.

Perhaps the Spirit is telling Christians to find a church that preaches and teaches the word of God in the truth and Spirit. Compromise nothing what so ever, in the word of God. Follow God not man, humble yourself before God and let him know that you are nothing without him. Do not let the liberal progressives rob you of your foundation in Jesus.

There was a progressive setting in church, and as I was preaching, what I considered a very controversial topic. As I watched the progressive, he would mime, a person with a shovel, and frequently act as though he was throwing a shovel full over his shoulder. I know well the meaning of the jester, he had nothing against the message, he was simply saying this is good stuff, but I do not need it; the guy behind me needs my portion.

The Church at Pergamos was getting a message, do not follow the doctrines of men, but do exactly what Christ wants you to do. With no compromise you Christian, do what Christ wants you to do. Love the sinner, as Christ loves you, but there is nowhere found in scripture where Jesus instructs us to compromise the faith, for political correctness.

Thanks ….

The Church at Ephesus

The Church at Ephesus

Church at Ephesus

Perhaps, there are those Christians in the church today who have never heard about the Seven Churches of Asia Minor, (Revelation of our Lord Jesus Christ to St. John; chapter 2 – 3), there are some so-called Christians that do not read and study the Bible on a regular basis, and some preachers seldom preach from the book of Revelation.

Nonetheless, the book is a wonderful book of study for the Christian, and the seven churches may be used very effectively for a measuring gage in three aspects of your spiritual wellness, as an individual, as a church, and as the church universal. The conditions, which Jesus addresses, cycle through the Christian church experience, as well as the individual relationship of Christians to Christ.

The church at Ephesus, its history of spiritual good works for the kingdom, and its fault

Unto the angel of the church of Ephesus write; These things saith he that holdeth the seven stars in his right hand, who walketh in the midst of the seven golden candlesticks;

I know thy works, and thy labour, and thy patience, and how thou canst not bear them which are evil: and thou hast tried them which say they are apostles, and are not, and hast found them liars:

And hast borne, and hast patience, and for my name’s sake hast laboured, and hast not fainted.

Nevertheless I have somewhat against thee, because thou hast left thy first love.

Remember therefore from whence thou art fallen, and repent, and do the first works; or else I will come unto thee quickly, and will remove thy candlestick out of his place, except thou repent.

But this thou hast, that thou hatest the deeds of the Nicolaitanes, which I also hate.

He that hath an ear, let him hear what the Spirit saith unto the churches; To him that overcometh will I give to eat of the tree of life, which is in the midst of the paradise of God.     (Revelation Chapter 2:1-7. KJV).

“To the angel[a] of the church in Ephesus write:

These are the words of him who holds the seven stars in his right hand and walks among the seven golden lampstands. I know your deeds, your hard work and your perseverance. I know that you cannot tolerate wicked people, that you have tested those who claim to be apostles but are not, and have found them false. You have persevered and have endured hardships for my name, and have not grown weary.

Yet I hold this against you: You have forsaken the love you had at first.Consider how far you have fallen! Repent and do the things you did at first. If you do not repent, I will come to you and remove your lampstand from its place. But you have this in your favor: You hate the practices of the Nicolaitans, which I also hate.

Whoever has ears, let them hear what the Spirit says to the churches. To the one who is victorious, I will give the right to eat from the tree of life, which is in the paradise of God.   (Revelation chapter 2:1—7 NIV)

Ephesus, a thriving metropolis, and the gem of Asia Minor, then known as “the metropolis of Asia”.  The temple of Artemis, (Diana, KJV), with such splendor it was counted as one of the wonders of the world.  Of course, the Romans had their gods and goddesses.  The church in Ephesus had been a strong church, a growing church, a church that persevered through tough persecution.  However, Jesus, He who holds the seven stars in His right hand, and walks among the seven lampstands, notices something amiss in His church.  Jesus alone, which has the authority as the head of all Christian churches, signified by the seven stars he holds in his left hand and his omniscient presence among the seven lampstands.

Jesus tells John to address the letter to the angel of the church.  It would be the pastor, elder, or bishop, the one who leads the church, the under-shepherd – the one who prophesied (forth-tells), the word of God.  To this servant write, I know what your strong points are, and you are to be commended on your outstanding work; but I have this against you.  Jesus, is the head of the church, He legislates the law, and he executes the law, his law.  What we must never try to do is shut Jesus up in heaven.  He is not an absentee leader, he holds the seven stars in His right hand still, and He walks among the seven candlesticks. Seven is the perfect number and represents the fullness of the Christian church.

Jesus says you are doing what I wanted you to do, but the thing I have against you is you have left your first love.  The church at Ephesus had begun to move into a comfort zone, the things they first had done through the love for Jesus, the work for the kingdom with love and enthusiasm.  They taught the word, they reached out to the unsaved, they fed the poor, the outcasts in poverty, the sick, and reached out to those in prison, the widows and orphans, they tested those who gave claim to the Apostolic Authority and found them to be liars, and they hated sin, and would not tolerate those who practiced sin.  This is the meaning of the first love, and it only starts with that deep personal love for Jesus.  Jesus is the one who said, “As the Father has loved me, I also have loved you, abide (live), in my love…”  “If you keep my commandments my commandments you will abide (live), in my love.  (Read in context, Jn. 12 through 15).

To the angel of the church, the star, the leader, or Pastor, (Jesus is the head), the Holy Spirit is the life, the “under shepherd” is who the letter is addressed, it is he who is held accountable to God for the condition of the church, and each individual in that body. This is the Chairman of the board, writing a letter to the CEO. It is great to have a boss like Jesus.

Jesus starts by telling them what wonderful work they have done, I know your work, which is not easy, but you have done a good job at it, you have been a committed church working hard, and standing firm in the faith. You cannot tolerate sin, or wicked people. You have tested those who say they are Apostles and found them to be liars; you have not allowed your pulpit to be used by charlatans, or those who teach another Gospel than Jesus Christ.

You have persevered, when others came against you, you have endured some hard times, for my name, and still have not given ground to their idiocies and slanders; these are good things. I commend you for your courage and commitment, which is well deserved.

Then the “nevertheless,” the dreaded but, the nevertheless in a running commendation for their extraordinary service. This is where the rubber meets the highway moment. I have a bit against you, (the word here is ‘somewhat’, not bit, bit is my insertion of a small thing which left alone could sink their ship.

Jesus says, you have left your first love. Remember, as an individual who having matured enough to experience the love in doing the work of the church? Being involve in church. It is an experience not easily forgotten; but actually comes about by neglect, or wrong motivation. Today, we leave our first love because of our lack of spiritual strength, through allowing the world to rob the church of its commitment to Jesus.

How do we allow the world to rob the church? By paying more attention to what the world is doing than what God wants us to do. Political correctness is one of the greatest enemies we face in the church today. Bullied by liberal politics, anti-Christian movements that rob the nation and the church of our principals in favor of a false prophet, to rob of our moral values, in favor of sexual depravity, moral accountability in favor of charlatans, preaching liber and liberation theologies, and not the gospel, which the Apostles preached.

We allow the world to rob God’s church when we leave our first love and follow after the world in the name of tolerance. Our human nature simply cowers before the name calling and belittling by the politicians and liberal movements not having any morals, and liberal anti-Christian persecution.

In all due respect to some of the “mainstream” denominations, who have fallen prey to the liberal movements and political agenda of this administration. When they have allowed sexual depravity, and progressivism, defile the pulpits and biblical doctrines, which Jesus entrusted to the church, it is shameful.

Moreover, it truly makes me wonder about the salvation of their leaders, but the Bible tells us that we are the ones that are accountable to Christ for the wellbeing of the church. Therefore, it is not mine to judge but perhaps expose and warn against the leaving of the first love.

As previously mentioned, the teaching of these seven churches may be applied to the church age, the universal and local church as it cycles through these seven conditions, and not to be forgotten, the individual Christian, as they grow in the faith, and find themselves frustrated by personal interaction with the church and their relationship to God.

In summation.

In the United States, as well as the free world, we find the devil has brought a great confrontation against the Christian and the Christian church. Our liberal and progressive movements have brought somewhat of a persecution to the church. I do not believe that what we see as persecution actually reflects what Jesus meant by persecution. The persecution that we find in the nation today is nothing like the persecution of the early church, and the persecution of which we witness in the Middle East, and other countries; that is serious persecution.

What we experience here today is more of a buffing, if you will, but it is enough to cause the falling away from the church, we call the couple of generations that may not return, millennials and they are the ones who being educated by liberals for the purpose of the liberal and progressive movement.

If you find yourself or your church becoming more worldly, more liberal, then you might want to examine your heart and see if you might have fallen from your first love. The instruction is clear, first admit it, then confess it, and repent—change directions and return to doing the first works of your Christian walk.

If it is the church that you notice the change in accommodating the world; do not start a battle, just simply find a good Bible believing church that teaches and preaches the word of God in the truth and the Spirit, there God will bless you and you will be the Christian you ought to be. If you are too worried that the world is calling you some sort of a phobia, or nutcase, intolerant, Bible thumper, believing fantasies and being part of antiquity. Just remember Christ is standing beside you, and the world hated him first.
