In the Midst of Worldwide Hate – Love is still the answer
Valentine’s Day is just a door ready to knock. And considering the turmoil of the world at this point, we wonder why Valentine’s Day still exists. Could it be, because it is related to young lovers who proclaim the words to their chosen hunk of humanity? Could it be, because of the greeting card, and candy manufacturing companies keeping it well advertised and promoted because of their bottom line?
I would like to believe it is because of the love experience itself. Consider if a child is born and never experiences love, can that child be capable of love? It would stand to reason that if a child never experienced love, only hatred that the child would grow to be a hate filled person. I am just trying to figure out what would motivate the feeling of love towards another person.
I believe that everyone who ever sucks in that first breath air, has felt love from the moment of the spark of life; for it was the spark of the love of God. Just as he breathed the breath of life into his creation Adam. From that moment, God has been trying to love mankind. And God gave the mankind a valentine in the Word of God through his servants, God gave the greatest gift of love through Jesus. Nonetheless, the experience of love has been given, in word yes, and in sacrifice, and in providing a means to redemption through God the Son – Jesus Christ our Savior. Jesus is our example of unconditional love, because he loved us while we were yet sinners without any conditions.
He loved us before we ever accepted that love, before we were all cleaned up, or rich enough to purchase it. he loved us with that kind of love that says: I no longer call you my disciples but I call you my friend, for no greater love does a man have than to lay down his life for a friend.
When asked by a Scribe which was the greatest commandment? Jesus replied: “ You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart, with all your soul, and with all your mind.’ ‘This is the first and greatest commandment.’ ‘And the second is like it “You shall love your neighbor as yourself, on these two commandments hang all the Law and Prophets”
And in the book of Mark the account goes on to include loving your enemies and those who persecute you. Yet this is the highest form of love, of which there are four; Agape: to love the undeserving, (unconditional love). Phileo: Friends, being fond of an individual or object. Storge (Stor gae) signifies familial love. Eros: implies sexual love.
Geisler, offers description of different nuances of the Greek words for love .. “Erotic (Eros): is egoistic, it says, ‘my first and last consideration is myself.’ Philic, (Phileo): ‘is mutualistic, it says, ‘I will give as long as I receive.’ Agape – Agapic love, says, ‘I will give requiring nothing in return.’ It is ‘unconditional love. It is the love that God loves us with, as he loves us first, before the foundations of the Earth. His love is given but unfortunately, most people either ignore or refuse this love. And although they may experience the other forms of love, there is no experiencing this love until you give your life to Jesus, then your desire is to love him with the same love.
God is the one who keeps this traditional Valentine’s Day continuing. Year after year, he is the one that allows us to show love, love is experienced in giving love; love that says regardless of your ideologies, and life style, Christian or no, I love you, I love you.
Have a happy Valentine’s Day…
And let me say, I know God loves you unconditionally –
Liberal Corruption Runs Deep and Wide.
I am sure you have noticed the condition of our once Great Nation, the Christian church, and the World we live in… that is unless you live somewhere that is so far off the grid that your neighbors live in caves, and wear bones in their noses. The world, (in most part), has become a dumbed down flock of sheep who are following yippy—skippy after a world order pied piper, which we so fondly call the UN. The world is in a mess and has been for centuries, so I would like to stay a bit closer to home than the whole world.
For nearly forty years’ liberalism has been rolling downhill like a snowball on its way to utopia; gathering up everything good and forming it into the well packed icy-cold huge snowball to hell, not utopia, like the corrupt politicians keep playing on their lyres and tin flutes the sweet music of deception. People in our nation have been brought under an evil delusion of liberalism.
There are few politicians that have left more of a positive legacy for the USA than what become more and more a negative. Simply because “We The People” have allowed ourselves to be lured into the throng of once God believing, God fearing, people who lived our lives under the conviction of our hearts and the commitment to our values, character, and integrity which has almost vanished now. It has been a slow process to transform the minds and will of a multitude of Americans to join in the now overwhelming throng of people, who find it easy to follow yippy-skippy after vile and evil people down that broad road leading to destruction.
However, none have been so calculated and evil as our president Obama and his administration, joined by the RINO establishment liberal Republicans who are nothing more than pawns in the hands of globalism. I do not recall a time when such vile and evil ideologies have hurt the United States as has this Obama administration. He and his anti-American, anti-Christian agenda has been calculated and disguised as inapt, and stupid – none of which, are in the least bit true, he is smart, or so it should appear.
But then maybe I am giving too much credit to a narcissistic wan-a-be ruler than the world has yet seen, his narcissistic delusion is too impatient to be smart, and shown him to be too dumb to carry out the will of his master George Soros, (it has magnified his costs by billions of dollars – my opinion,). Nonetheless, this piece of buzzard vomit who tried to interfere in the Israeli (Netanyahu) Election, and the Brexit vote in England – with his people on the ground and millions if not billions of tax-payer money,- had better think twice about getting on Trump, or even Putin, but better look in his mirror and maybe think about leaving the United States, before he and Hillary, the Bushes, McConnell, McCain, Reid, Pelosi, Boehner, and over a hundred members of congress including Rubio, get hammered under the RICO Act for Treason. (wishful thinking on my part).
There is room for repentance yes, however consider the word repentance, that means a sincere – heart and head – decision to change direction, and go in the opposite – doing your level best to change your mind and heart 180 degrees! If that is not in place there is no forgiveness, and so far, all I have seen is more lies and more lies with nothing to prosecute a case. All mouth for the unethical lying media! (That’s how they make their money… including Fox News anchors). This nation is in the septic pool of vile slime wrought on by liberal Marxist politicians pandering to the so-called impoverished citizens with promises on promises and not delivering.
The Civil Liberties Act is an unnecessary piece of liberal garbage; why? because it is written for the liberal agenda, and the tail wag the dog sort of crap that has been going on since the Kennedy Brothers. It is not just with the Democrats, but with establishment RINOs who have been trying since Reagan to take over the Republican Party, with their new definition of Conservative. It is more than uncomprehensive, how our elected officials go lazy and brain-dead when they get elected to office.
The Liberals and RINOs have bloated the bureaucracy of local state and federal governments, going global while this nation has been moving backwards, borrowing money from China, Russia, Japan, and God knows who else to send to countries who want to kill us, go against the will of the people, of our allies with dirty illegal politics because of a narcissistic mentality pushing for their own political gain, here and at the UN.
Globalization at the expense of our sovereignty, our economy, our children’s safety and education, our seniors who have been robbed of our retirement, and now the thieves don’t want to pay it back, so we eliminate the program … (McConnell – McCain), give the money to the illegal aliens, and Muslims. Persecute Christians with manufactured BS until it has split denominations and weakened others, people have left great churches for a more ‘comfortable and easy religion’ called liberal Christian theology, which is more than we have space for here.
We have become a nation of laziness and dependency on government, one of the greatest liberal Democratic presidents, once made a phrase internationally popular… “Ask not what your country can do for you; but what you can do for your country.” He loved his country, and was against the communist agenda of Communist Russia. His problem was the Conservative Christian Republican from Selma Alabama, and the Democratic South’s continued segregation, the man started a movement … a movement of real black Americans who were tired of the Jim Crow mentality of the Democratic KKK and the Democratic chains holding the black American to the plantation.
His Dream was that one day, men would be judged by their “character” not the color of their skin. That American hero was Dr. Martin Luther King a conservative preacher. Not now, we have Al Sharpton and Jessie Jackson, the NAACP, the Black Panthers, and now the Black Lives Matters, who have shattered Dr. Kings Dream; why? for a free ride, and Obama-phone. All for liberalism. The media have sold their souls to liberal socialism. The ACLU and IRS are the enforcers of the Global liberal socialist Union wrought on by the UN… the gift of FDR, who wrote the Charter, and his wife was the first Ambassador (central committee representative) from the US.
The pied piper of liberalism has moved on America with its sweet tune of deception, and destruction. We have allowed the LBGT to bully its way into the classrooms of our children, and allowed the ACLU to remove anything Christian from the public square because of the Supreme Court creating case law and manufacturing the wrong interpretation of the constitution, which a liberal-RINO congress either don’t care, have no backbone, or are too lazy to straighten out; meanwhile our values, ethics, and integrity continues to go down the sewer to that great septic pool of liberal America. I for one would call for a congressional investigation into the biggest fraud that has ever been perpetrated against the American people and the Christian church.
I am R.S. Helms and I am tired of the same old BS that has our country ready to be flushed.
It’s Time To Make the Church Great Again!
Some backbone needed! … Apply at the Cross of Jesus.
As I go through the email each day, I have started to eliminate 95% of it, because the election is over and the people have chosen President Elect Donald Trump. Nonetheless, the Mainstream Media (including Fox, TownHall, and the almost forgotten Blaze of the GB network), simply have the conservative Social Media, in most part simply going over the manufactured news, time and time again, and the more it goes forward the more fake it becomes. People need to simply see that liberal socialism is in serious trouble in the nation, and just make a stand for making America great again, then simply commit to boycott the organizations and business’ that keep this crap alive. If you do not react to their mindless stupidity, their evil values. Stop watching the liberal BS on TV they will not win.
For conservative fundamental Christians, we absolutely must drop the anxieties of the world; grow some spiritual backbone, because the Church of our Lord Jesus is in serious liberal trouble as well. Nevertheless, Jesus left us some wise counsel on how to deal with the broken church.
This is a sermon which I preached Sunday before last, and it brought a good response of true Christians, that I am posting it as an obligation of request.
Excited about what God is going to do with the Christian church
in our nation…
Sermon Preached by Rev. R.S. Helms… 11-20-2016– Community Baptist Church. W. Monroe LA.
There are some things that Christians should not talk about in church, or so it would seem. One is the vile godless condition of our political front. It is like a septic pool filled with toxic poison, that draws wretched mankind to drink of that poison, thinking that it is a fountain of utopia, a mystical world of bliss and peace; heralded by the enticing evil wicked beckoning call of the Sirens.
The nation has been under spiritual attack for a long, long time. and politics is perhaps, the number one thing that has been polluting the pool. Politics has been growing more and more corrupt and vile. But it did not get that way on its own, remember, this nation started out with an overwhelming majority of Christians, escaping the rule of the British Crown and the Anglican Church. They came in hope and promise of their religious liberty, which became a stumbling block to the accelerated corruption of a progressive government. The Christian values that put character in the very fiber of this nation. soon stood in the way of the political corruption’s progress.
The Christian church was listening to the choir on Sunday morning and for the rest of the week they were listening to the seductive call of the Sirens beckoning the saints to die in the septic pool of corruption, and that is what I would like to address this morning, and time is slipping by.
The intent of the message this morning is for you to look forward with an excited expectation of what God is going to do in his church across this nation, nonetheless, it requires committed and dedicated Christians to do the work.
It is what we may not see that is killing us. From what I see, Community Baptist Church, is a wonderfully blessed church, we have a pastor who truly loves the Lord and his people and solid in his biblical doctrines – he preaches the word in truth and in the Spirit, the people are not all stuffed with narcissistic pride. You, and look around you, you are real people who love the Lord Jesus, just regular people who love the Lord gathering together in such a sweet fellowship, and we are not alone, there are many more such churches just like us, we are of the majority in our denomination. But sometimes, it is the things that we don’t see in the Christian church that is dangerous to us. So, first the list of the churches of Asia Minor, two of which, Jesus had no quarrel with, he had no condemnation, only commendation, …
Revelation, chapters 2-3. Please. … if you will.
I love this church, and our Pastor Danny, and I find this church is more like the church at Philadelphia, only commendation, no condemnation, so this morning the Lord simply had me stop by on my journey, and give a caution, a caution to watch, and be very careful for we are headed for some good times and some rough times, as I believe God has something great for us to be part of, the revival and restoration of his people the church of Jesus Christ.
- Jesus gives us a warning.
The first three chapters of revelation is where Jesus connects the beginning of the end, to the end of the church age, that time from the forming of the church, which took place at the ascension of Jesus. The seven churches represent seven actual churches, and metaphorically the church throughout time as it cycles through these conditions. It is used for the local church, and each individual Christian as they are the church.
The Seven Churches of Asia Minor and what they were noted for:
- The church at Ephesus – The Loveless Church –loss of motivation, but mostly the loss of their love for Jesus.
- Smyrna – The persecuted church – good works, and poverty for Christ’ sake. – No Condemnation.
- Pergamos – The Compromising Church faithful to Christ – but Tolerance of those promiscuous persons who taught the doctrine of Balaam and the Nicolaitans.
- Thyatira – The Corrupt Church – Tolerant of the false prophetess Jezebel and her wicked practices.
- Sardis – The Dead Church – A reputation for life but, in reality, were dead.
- Philadelphia – The Faithful Church – faithfulness to the word of Christ… no Condemnation
- Laodicea – The Lukewarm Church – They were neither hot nor cold, and were sickening to the Lord.
These are the church conditions; the churches are both historical and typical. They refer primarily to the actual condition of the several churches indicated, and now are intended to be used for the instruction, encouragement, and warning of the Church and Churches throughout all time; or the Church age. They are the measuring plum, which God gave us to see what condition the Universal Church of Christ is in, our Denomination, our local church, and seriously our individual condition.
A month or so ago, I knew that this election would come down to one or the other candidate. It would not matter so much who would win, because I was thanking God for whoever won, I just was excited to have it over, knowing whichever the winner, God had a plan for the outcome. And now that it is finally over, except for the crying… God has a plan for the nation, and a plan for the church; both are opportunities. Both, are opportunities of restoration, revival, and even more so another great awakening.
Should the election have come to a different end, then God would allow the nation to continue in a seemingly death spiral; until our people woke from their slumber or delusion and cry out for god. But he would have the plan for the church the same plan for the church, either the outcome, Revival, to bring about an awakening – and I for one am so thankful that I have been allowed to see his mighty hand set to revive his church. – one could say I am excited in my thanksgiving because I know that God has a plan. We chose who the president would be, but I knew, that God would use whoever we chose because he had a plan for the church, and a plan for the nation. I am happy with the outcome because of what he is committed to do, and one of the most important to me, is he will protect our church. He will protect the church.
The Southern Baptist Convention had a split in 1991 over the claim of theological and philosophical differences, this division started 12 or so years earlier with the ‘moderate’-liberal faction. The split created the Cooperative Baptist Fellowship, and at that time it was called moderate/liberal Baptists. I will not get into all the Christian denominations in the nation; however, so that no one gets the idea that my beloved Southern Baptist Convention, is not without its share of liberalism, it should be known that our convention does have some liberal theologians, teaching in our seminaries, and in our leadership, perhaps it has to do with the political correctness that has been used to not only persecute Christians, but to get them to jump into liberal theology, or try to hold the flock from going liberal.
One thing I will say is that Jesus has given us the eyes to see, and the Holy Spirit has given us the ears to hear (spiritual ears), that we may understand and recognize what condition his church is in at any given time. In America and around the world, we have more than a multitude of “Christian” branches, groups, cults, denominations, and that is why I am so thankful that God put seven churches at the beginning of the book of Revelation and the Apostle John as the journalist (if you will).
Today we still have the seven churches in the Bible, and praise God we have the Holy Spirit who quickens our spirit and convicts us into participation; not of this world but of the Kingdom of God and merely as sojourners are we, on our way home.
Now two churches (remember the church is the people), that I will briefly look at this morning. I trust you will find a study Bible or commentary and look at these churches as conditions of today, and what God will require from his people to fix the broken Church, even if our church is not broken, we will need to pay attention and get excited about what God is going to do. Then again, he may do nothing, except let us continue along the broad path, the Bible tells us that the broad path leads to destruction. Personally, I pray for revival … revive us again lord Jesus!
I believe, there are people in this church, which are anxious … some a lot … some not so much, about not only the vileness of the campaign cycle, and now the unrest and vile thuggery of protesters. I can understand, — it takes a special godly man like brother Danny, to project the peace of God as he does. I don’t want to project anxiety, or fear – that is wrong, but perhaps hope in Jesus for those who feel anxious, and fearful of the future. God is still God, he is still on his throne, and still, he will quiet the raging sea.
- The first Condition.
The churches at Pergamos and Thyatira, …
Pergamos: The Compromising Church. Why should I call it a compromising church? Well, my, my, my … it is a church that is faithful to Christ, nonetheless, at the same time is tolerant of those promiscuous people in the congregation.
- Please notice that Jesus is telling Paul to write to the angel of the church not the world, it is a concern in the congregation. Not the nation. during the campaign, some of the notable Christian leaders, were making it known who they were supporting, and some were condemning them for giving Trump a slide, or tolerating his sin… well, — Trump was not running to be head of the Christian church, … and, we are commanded to be forgiving, his sin of lust is a forgivable sin. So, ask yourself, why would a Christian leader publicly denounce, pastors willing to forgive the actions of someone eleven years prior? But apparently, some are better than God and just will not forgive. They use words like tolerate sin, not knowing if Trump who is perhaps a different denomination (Presbyterian), and don’t feel he needs to confess his sin to anyone but God or like a whole lot of Christians don’t think their sin is sin. … but he could have done that at any time during the last eleven years. I don’t know and neither do they. One reason that we listen with the ears of God not those of some denominational leaders. Although they are supposed to be our leaders, and examples, they at times sound more like Pharisees.
- b. King David, committed lust, he committed adultery, he committed murder. David confessed, to God, he confessed and repented of the wrong, and God forgave him and called David a “Man after my own heart” …
- The church at Pergamos, was tolerating promiscuous persons within the congregation. This is what upsets Christ is to have his church compromising the faith, and allowing sin to be tolerated IN the church. The condition of the church, was allowing promiscuous persons, and or false teachings, it was allowing meat sacrificed to idols, it was a plea for freedom in the church to take part in the idolatrous rites, and for introducing heathen orgies into the Christian ceremonies. The doctrine of these antinomian teachers was “the doctrine of Balaam” because, like Balaam, they prostituted their influence to the seducing of God’s people into idolatry and impurity. The similarity of this doctrine and that of the Nicolaitans is obvious; —- but that of Nicolaus (which is equivalent to “conquering the people”) is intended as similar doctrines is only conjecture. Fact is, there were two sects side by side at Pergamum is the meaning of this passage; and though their doctrines were alike in being, to control the people by the people’s compromise.
Church, we need not compromise on the faith, nor on the word of God being inerrant and infallible. If you believe one verse, you must believe them all, if you fault one verse you must fault them all … oh well it is a good book and some of it may help me through this life. That is the difference in conservative “traditional orthodox” Christian theology, and liberal theology.
The second Church of my selection
- Thyatira – The Corrupt Church. Again, we have the word Tolerance – Tolerance of the false prophetess Jezebel and her wicked practices. The church, condition, here projects the word suffer and there is a right and a wrong suffering, — a… the suffering of tribulations, or persecution, — and the suffering or tolerating — allowing a whole lot of wrong to go on. The church at Thyatira had both, and the rebuke is aimed at the wrong. The enduring of tribulation, (persecution) is commended, while the toleration, or enduring, of evil is rebuked. It is not said that Jezebel receives sympathy or encouragement, but merely that she is let alone; her wickedness is left unchecked, and that is sinful. It is not worthwhile to speculate as to who this individual woman is, she was there and she may be a person or a false doctrine. It is my studied opinion that Jezebel is not her real name but a symbolical name of reproach, and what her actual name and status was we have no way of knowing. Whatever, what is critical in this church is the suffering of this as false doctrine, akin to that of the Nicolaitans and to the doctrine of Balaam. Whatever the detailed difference may be, all three made ‘Christian liberty” a plea for antichristian license which claimed to be above the moral Law. And she taught and seduced. This is an independent statement and not be made to depend on the “thou sufferest.” In the original language, the word for seduce, and lead astray, is the same and used often in the ‘active’ sense, in Johns writing. Here it implies seduction into error of a very grave kind. Be it fornication (literally) or metaphorically to mean spiritual sense of idolatry. The Christian church needs to look at itself, and not fail Christ by allowing false doctrines and worldly influence and persecution to corrupt the foundations of our faith.
- Please remember, that compromise leads to corruption, and vice-versa, and as the church we must look past the plea of liberalism as Christian liberty; Christian compassion and tolerance, and hold fast to the doctrines of the word of God; if we compromise on one doctrine of the Bible we corrupt the whole thing. And that relates to our salvation by grace alone, in faith on the work of our Lord Jesus. You, yes each professing born again Christian must affirm the Bible as being the very word of God, without error — being infallible in its instruction and teaching, which is interpreted by the Holy Spirit… and so far it is still valid in the Southern Baptist Statement of Faith. … what you need to do is examine yourself and our church, and other churches and denominations to see if that is in their personal and church statement of faith. If it is not? Then why not? Where did you first compromise on your Christian faith? And why? … has the liberal world intimidated you to compromise on the Word of God? … thank God he is a God of second, third, fourth, 7 times 70 forgiving grace. Do not be afraid of the liberal world calling you hurtful names, and slandering you and your faith! It is time to pick up your cross and grow a backbone and stand firm in the faith of the Apostles! A bunch of liberal theologians, preachers of false prophecy, teachers of false doctrine, are not going to intimidate me! I will stand unto my death for the cause of Jesus and the justice of God … my faith in ‘the faith’ in the belief and conviction of the Holy Ghost on my heart.
Folks … we must fix The church — starting with me, then our church, then the universal church. it is broken and only God can fix it, but he will use only the willing, committed Christian the true disciple of Christ. The nation is badly broken, and it will take God, working through Trump, and a willing congress to fix it and make it great again; and it cannot happen unless the church goes into revival and sets the stage for a great awakening, when the delusional and misled people see God at work restoring His church, cleansing it from the liberal theological lies. then it can happen, and God will heal our land.
My sincere caution to our church is to examine ourselves, and cling to the Bible as our authority, it is inerrant and infallible and we are to test any other doctrines and church traditions by the scripture. We need to prepare our hearts for true Christian revival, unity, and the authority of God’s word. God said you are either with me or you are against me. There is no middle ground, you are not to be luke warm, or simply halfway committed to Jesus, it is critically important that each of us have a personal love relationship with Jesus, and if you have never surrendered to Jesus, if you have never known that personal love relationship with him, please take care of that business right now, you don’t know when we will be taken; and that will be too late. It is that urgent, and such a simple free thing to do. I will open the alter for you to come and pray, or to take care of business with God.
Deacon of the Week, would you please close in Prayer for us all.
Corruption in Politics…
Corruption in the Church…
R.S. Helms/ Bob’s Opinion / 10-17-2016
COULD IT BE, that corruption in U.S. Politics goes back further than we would suspect? During my book research I became involved in the causes of the Civil War, rather than Slavery; this becomes so involved in the early politics of our nation. Nonetheless, George Washington was appointed twice, and had no party designation. Likewise, John Adams was appointed twice as Washington’s Vice-President, however he was in the early forming of the Federalist Party, and won the election of 1786 as a Federalist, against the Democrat-Republican Thomas Jefferson. Nonetheless, these two founding fathers established the first two actual political parties in our nation, and the introduction of corruption into our political system.
Charles Finney, (1792—1875) a lawyer, and at age 29 became a licensed minister in the Presbyterian Church, he was the one of the great revivalists of the Second Great Awakening. And it was in the book “Principles of Victory” (compiled and edited by Louis Parkhurst. Jr. 1981 Bethany House). that I found affirmation to my notion that all politicians are corrupt, liars, thieves, and in general dishonest representatives of the American People. Finney, not only confirms the notion but delineates that the real corruption is in the ones that follows the parties and that Christians should not be a follower of one party or another.
Finney was a Princeton educated lawyer, and educator, starting the Oberlin College in Oberlin Ohio, it is still in business today, and likewise his Charles Finney School. In addition, he pastored the Oberlin Congregationalist/Presbyterian Church. To me, his “Finney’s Systematic Theology” is a great theological tool, however, it is written in such a way that it is rather hard for me to understand at times; being a Southern Baptist, orthodox conservative theology, and Finney a Presbyterian “Calvinist” there is some theological differences, but not strong enough to stop me from appreciating the works of Charles Finney, as a Lawyer, Educator, and Theologian.
I will not attempt to quote the whole of several pages but some of the points which he made in the Nineteenth Century. Finney was the individual most responsible for the Abolitionist and Women’s Movements, and during the reconstruction era Finney called for more education, and suffrage movements for blacks and women. So I feel good about what was happening in politics then is not that much different than what is being done today; COULD IT BE, that the “We the People” have really come to realize that enough is enough? – at least a majority have.
Now, here is some of what Charles Finney has to say about politics and politicians. In the book he has a sermon entitled “Conformity to the World” it was lumped into ‘Preaching to Christians’ and ‘Sermons from Romans.’ Finney brings three areas that we are not to be conformed to the world: Business, Fashion, and Politics, it is of course the last point of interest that I am drawn.
Be not conformed to this world in politics…
“I will show why professing Christians are not to be conformed to the world in politics.”
1). “Because the politics of the world are perfectly dishonest. Who does not know this? who does not know that it is the proposed policy of ever party to cover up the defects of their own candidate, and the good qualities of the opposing candidate? and is not this dishonest? Every party holds up its candidate as a piece of perfection, and then aims to ride him into office by any means fair or foul. No man can be an honest man who is committed to a party to go with them. Let them do what they may; and can a Christian do it, and keep a conscience void of offense?”
COULD IT BE, that in the 1800s, Finney was talking about our political climate today as well as then?
2). “To conform to the world in politics is to tempt God…By falling in with the world in politics, Christians are guilty of setting up rulers over them by their own vote, who neither fear nor love God, and who set the law of God at defiance, break the Sabbath, and gamble and commit adultery, and fight duels, and swear profanely, and leave the laws unexecuted at their pleasure, and that care not for the weal or woe of their country, so long as they keep their office. I say Christians do this. For it is plain that where parties are divided, as they are in this country, there are Christians enough to turn the scale in any election. Now let Christians take the ground that they will not vote for a dishonest man, or a Sabbath breaker, or gambler, or a whoremonger, or duelist, for any office, and no party could ever nominate such a character with any hope of success.” “But on the present system, where men will let the laws go unexecuted, and give full swing to mobs, lynch-murders, or robbing the mails, or anything else, so they can run in their own candidate will give them the offices; any man is a dishonest man who will do it, be he professor or non-professor. And can a Christian do this and be blameless?”
3). “By engaging with the world in politics, Christians grieve the spirit of God… Ask any Christian politician if he ever carried the Spirit of God with him into the political campaign? Never. I would by no means be understood to say that Christians should not vote and to exercise their lawful influence in public affairs. But they ought not to follow a party.
4). By following the present course of politics, you are contributing your aid to undermine all government and order in the land. Who does not know that this great nation now rocks and reels, because the laws are broken and trampled underfoot, and the executive power refuses or dares not act? Either the magistrate does not wish to put down disorder, or he temporizes and lets the devil rule. And can a Christian be consistent with his profession and vote for such men to office?”
Finney goes on for another six or so points, on Christian witness, and that the world sees how they live or believe what they preach, and that Christians really need to look at what is going on around them, and actually understand the motivation and ideologies of where the candidates are going to take them.
Christians (if you are truly ‘born again’ a new creature in Christ,) you will understand that there is no politician who is going to walk his Christian walk when he gets in office. Reality is, should he do so, he would try to form a theocratic government, it works okay in religion but is a bit restrictive for a Constitutional Free Republic, that is actually governed by the will of ‘We the People”, not the will of God.
Charles Finney, was a major player for organizing people to Stop slavery, he and Oberlin College was part of the “underground railroad” he was prominent in the anti-slavery, the suffrage movement for women and former slaves. He wanted the reconstruction to build schools, churches, and infrastructure for the war devastated South. He knew the politicians and the political corruption from the time of John Adams, and like today the people faced the same corruption, the lack of law, … especially by the complete disregard for the law of the land, as we have today.
I do have a problem with the “Evangelical” leaders who continue to judge their fellow laborers in Christ, who support Donald Trump. They have worn out the scriptures pointing to his past sins, and “love your neighbor”, then I ask which one of them would invite Satan or one of his imps to take up the spare bedroom in their oversized homes? The way I see it is that yes we are mandated to receive strangers, and to love our neighbors, even love our enemy, but the Bible also teaches us to avoid evil, and to be cautious, as in — walking circumspectly that we not entertain evil and walk in the way of the world.
We are sojourners in this world only passing through, on our way to our kingdom home, and yes I have commented on some of their posts, calling them Pharisees, and not actually attending to their own sin, not aware, (?) of what they are doing and saying. Donald Trump is not perfect, but neither are they or I for sure am not and yet they have promoted lies, even after Trump met with a newly formed coalition of Evangelicals, hearing him say, that he may not believe, in his “particular” Christian faith the same as each of them, but that one thing he could guarantee, was that he would protect “their churches” but that seemed to fall on deaf ears to some of the leaders.
Jesus said, that he who is without sin cast the first stone, he also said that we are to worry more about the plank (beam) in our own eye, before we attempt to remove the speck from our brother’s eye. Concerning Russell More, president of the Ethics and Religious Liberty Commission of the SBC; I am happy to say that his self-righteous, (pharisaical), statements against other evangelical leaders and pastors only prove the “beam and speck” analogy of Jesus’ teaching, the traditional policies of some of the Southern Baptist Churches (which become doctrine) pharisaical leadership in our churches today is part of the reason that we are having such a hard time retaining membership and seekers.
God’s infallible – inerrant word (the Bible), does not change just as God does not change to meet our personal views, so by being unforgiving, is just as sinful as saying disgusting thoughts and of which he publicly apologized to those he had offended, we don’t know and perhaps in his faith we don’t need to know, if he has made his confession to God. While Southern Baptist Democrats are cheering Moore’s comments against Trump and other evangelicals, the Conservative evangelicals are calling foul.
And that is where most of the split in evangelicals really is, it is in our political party affiliation, I don’t know what Dr. Moore’s political preference is, and don’t really care. What I do care about is his attack on other evangelical leaders and pastors, and not properly using scripture to make his point. It is not the scripture which he used to make his point, but how it leaves the hearers heart… he did not take the opportunity to lift up the work of Jesus’ earthly ministry of repentance. i.e., The Apostle Paul… we have all sinned and come short of the glory of God, we are all sinners saved by the grace of God, through faith in Christ Jesus. I am a sinner, and must confess my sin before the throne of God each and every day, not my past confessed sin, because God said he has forgotten it. But I have enough sin in my life to keep me busy telling God I am sorry and will do my level best not to continue down that path. Jesus said to forgive sin, sin perpetrated against me (R.S. Helms), seven times seventy; I have no choice in the matter, for if I don’t forgive those who have sinned against me how then can I expect God to forgive me.
But, if the evangelicals against Trump can get past the reality, that the RINOs didn’t get their (Liberal Theology) Christian Cruz, in as the nominee, and at this point their choice is all about protecting our religious freedom, and our country, or about becoming a socialist union (North American Union) like Europe, with Shariah Law instead of Constitutional Law, Islam the religion of the central government, — that is a choice they need to make. For me, it is about preserving our Christian constitutional freedoms. Securing the border, and get a handle on crime and our immigration crisis, and restore our values. I pray God can use whichever way we the people go.
Should we actually vote Hillary in, COULD IT BE, God is not finished teaching the Christian Church what he intends us to truly understand? Your Will be done, and if it is your will I am excited about what, You Lord, are about to do in the life of Your Church.

GOD BLESS THOSE WHO MOURN…
I begin, with a sincere, heartfelt condolence to the families, loved ones, and friends of the fallen Dallas policemen, who sacrificed their lives that the community of Dallas would be safe. I will spend time in prayer for you the families and loved ones who are morning your personal loss.
I pray not for their behalf, but for yours, your comfort, and peace to come over you as you grieve with a broken heart. You are the personal side of the character of our law enforcement officers, and as such, deserving of our prayers, I am part of the mass who are effected by the tragic loss of such selfless public servants.
Recognizing the vast differences in the essence of our loss, makes it my Christian obligation, and my civic duty, to join you in the mourning and prayers during this time, fitting to remember our servant heroes, and to honor them in memorial. I thank them for their service, and know that the community of Dallas will be far, far, less safe in the days to come, because their commitment to protect will not be in place. The nation and the world will be less safe as this simply emboldens the enemies of our communities and our wellbeing to continue to bully, intimidate, and terrorize the innocent into submission.
I would never presume to say I understand how you feel because no one can, as each relationship is unique to the individuals, however, I, at best, can in all humility extend the love of Christ our Lord, with whom these fallen heroes are with, and likewise our own personal losses are under His love to us. It is proper to mourn, and we all must respect that and join you in our own capacity and respect.
May God keep you in this time of loss, and bless you with those who will comfort you.
Remember Charles Finney? Don’t expect to if have not studied anything about the Great Awakenings in the United States. Finney was one of the great evangelist leaders of the Second Great Awakening.
Nonetheless, I am posting one of his points in a sermon from Romans, the Sermon was “Be Ye Not Conformed to This World” (Rm. 12:2). Why? COULD IT BE, that it could have been written yesterday about our politics and politicians. I guess a timeless truth.
“Be Not Conformed to this world In Politics.”
“I will show why professing Christians are required not to be conformed to the world in politics.
- Because the politics of the world are perfectly dishonest.
Who does not know this? Who does not know that it is the proposed policy of every party to cover up the defects of their own candidate, and the good qualities of the opposing candidate? And is not this dishonest? Every party holds up its candidate as a piece of perfection, and then aims to ride him into office by any means, fair or foul. No man can be an honest man, that is committed to a party, to go with them, let them do what they may. And can a Christian do it, and keep a conscience void of offense?
- To conform to the world in politics is to tempt God.
By falling in with the world in politics, Christians are guilty of setting up rulers over them by their own vote, who do not fear nor love God, and who set the law of God at defiance, break the Sabbath, and gamble, and commit adultery, and fight duels, and swear profanely, and leave the laws unexecuted at their pleasure, and that care not for the weal or woe of their country, so long as they can keep their office. I say Christians do this. For it is plain that where parties are divided, as they are in this country, there are Christians enough to turn the scale in any election. Now let Christians take the ground that they will not vote for a dishonest man, or a Sabbath breaker, or gambler, or whoremonger, or duelist, for any office, and no party could ever nominate such a character with any hope of success. But on the present system, where men will let the laws go unexecuted, and give full swing to mobs, or lynch-murders, or robbing the mails, or anything else, so they can run in their own candidate who will give them the offices, any man is a dishonest man that will do it, be he professor or non-professor. And can a Christian do this and be blameless?
- By engaging with the world in politics, Christians grieve the Spirit of God.
Ask any Christian politician if he ever carried the Spirit of God with him into a political campaign? Never. I would by no means be understood to say that Christians should refuse to vote, and to exercise their lawful influence in public affairs. But they ought not to follow a party.
- By following the present course of politics, you are contributing your aid to undermine all government and order in the land.
Who does not know that this great nation now rocks and reels, because the laws are broken and trampled under foot, and the executive power refuses or dare not act? Either the magistrate does not wish to put down disorder, or he temporizes and lets the devil rule. And so it is in all parts of the country, and all parties. And can a Christian be consistent with his profession, and vote for such men to office?
- You lay a stumbling-block in the way of sinners.
What do sinners think, when they see professing Christians acting with them in their political measures, which they themselves know to be dishonest and corrupt? They say, “We understand what we are about, we are after office, we are determined to carry our party into power, we are pursuing our own interest; but these Christians profess to live for another and a higher end, and yet here they come, and join with us, as eager for the loaves and fishes as the rest of us.” What greater stumbling-block can they have?
- You prove to the ungodly that professing Christians are actuated by the same spirit with themselves.
Who can wonder that the world is incredulous as to the reality of religion? If they do not look for themselves into the scriptures, and there learn what religion is, if they are governed by the rules of evidence from what they see in the lives of professing Christians, they ought to be incredulous. They ought to infer, so far as this evidence goes, that professors of religion do not themselves believe in it. It is the fact. I doubt, myself, whether the great mass of professors believe the Bible.
- They show, so far as their evidence can go, that there is no change of heart.
What is it? Is it going to the communion table once in a month or two, and sometimes to prayer meeting? In that a change of heart, when they are just as eager in the scramble for office as any others? The world must be fools to believe in a change of heart on such evidence.
- Christians ought to cease from conformity to the world in politics, from the influence which such a course would have on the world.
Suppose Christians were to act perfectly conscientious and consistent in this matter, and to say, “We will not vote for any man to office, unless he fears God and will rule the people in righteousness.” Ungodly men would not set men as candidates, who themselves set the laws at defiance. No. Every candidate would be obliged to show that he was prepared to act from higher motives, and that he would lay himself out to make the country prosperous, and to promote virtue, and to put down vice and oppression and disorder, and to do all he can to make the people happy and HOLY! It would shame the dishonest politicians, to show that the love of God and man is the motive that Christians have in view. And a blessed influence would go over the land like a wave.”
