Revelation … discourse Introduction
The book of Revelation, the Revelation of Jesus Christ as given to the Apostle John on the island of Patmos. It is this first three chapters of Revelation that the true Christian needs to be very aware, very aware indeed.
The preface to his book on lectures on the Book of Revelation published in 1920 and again in 1988, H.A. Ironside one of the greatest theologians, and Bible scholars and teachers of prophecy to ever grace the halls of evangelical seminaries. had this to say in 1919: “It must be very gratifying to sober students of prophecy to find that their position is only strengthened by recent happenings, and their previous conclusions confirmed. On the other hand, the self-styled optimistic school, who has ever closed their eyes to the solemn facts of prophecy, might well be humiliated to find their vain-glorious prognostications proven so utterly false, and their confidence in human brotherhood, as a preventive of war and cruelty, shown to be a foolish hallucination, which ignored the word of God and the corruption of the human heart.”
As we explore the causes of the present-day broken church, that is the Bible-believing protestant church, where major denominations are either split because of, “political correctness” or blatant politics, but regardless of how they dress it up, it is liberalism and what liberalism has become. So, first, we will explore the Seven Churches to show what Jesus sees in the church, His church.
As Jesus divides the revelation (chapter. 2:19 Rev.) Write the things which thou hast seen, and the things which are, and the things which shall be hereafter. The things which thou hast seen are the things of chapter one, the first division of the Book of Revelation. The things which are, are the things of the present dispensation or the church age. Is it possible, that God is telling the broken church He is starting to end the church age? Yes, that is why the instruction to record the things which are now, and chapter 2&3 Jesus gives the warning to the churches.
While you read the account of the Seven Churches, you may consider that Jesus does both commend and condemn the actions or condition of the churches. Five churches had condemnation and two had nothing but the commendation of the Lord. Now, consider, Jesus is the head of the church, the church is the bride of Christ, the church is the born-again believers, the seven churches are representative of the church condition through time. The church is the individual local churches that make up the universal church, and the individual local church is the people, therefore the warnings go all the way to the individual Christian’s condition.
I do know that my studied opinion will lead to some friends un-friending me, and being blocked on some sites, however, it is my objective to get to the bottom of the evil of liberalism, liberalism in politics and in the church. However, one centers on ideology and the other Theology, underneath they are both destructive and evil. In our free Republic, they walk hand in hand and one cannot achieve its sinister goal without the other.
The church today has been bridled just as the Protestant churches in England. Restricted from preaching the Bible and limited in their practices after King Henry viii when he instituted the Church of England as the official church, replacing the Church of Rome (Roman Catholic), it is the Episcopal of today. Believe it or not, the founding fathers didn’t want the Episcopal nor the Roman Catholics to be in the United States, but to be fair they just said that the Government could not create a state church nor obstruct the exercise of any church.
So, for some ungodly reason, the enemy, the real enemy, has set his battle against the Christian church. Of course, we know all about the war against God’s people, and through the ages, there have been many battles, many battles indeed. However, according to God, the end of that Holy War, has already been determined; we know the ending. We know there are reasons that we are on our journey of life so divinely placed on this old spinning terrestrial sod.
It was God’s people, then Jesus changed that whole thing to God’s Children through adoption. Didn’t negate God’s People, who are still under the law. They just have not accepted Jesus the son of a carpenter as the Messiah, the Lamb of Sacrifice to fulfill the law of God. So those who do believe in the work of Jesus, are adopted into the Holy family of God.
We were first called Christians at Antioch, but the church was founded by Jesus and on Jesus the Petra (mantle stone), He would build the church, the Christian church. For those of us who are Pre-Trib, (the church being raptured at the start of the Great Tribulation), but mind you claiming to be a Christian does not make you one. Sort of like, standing in the garage doesn’t make you a Cadillac.
My point is, some will be left behind, left behind because they may think they are a Cadillac. It is my intent to go through these Seven Churches and point to the corruption in the church; bringing attention to the other gods that affect our lives and the church Jesus so dearly loves. He loves us enough to tell us ahead of time, to get our relationship with Jesus in proper order. When we get back on track, the church will, of course, be back on track.
It is my studied opinion, that the first church, the church at Ephesus, has the same condemnations as many of us have. We have lost our first love, our first excitement, and commitment to our Lord Jesus Christ. Rev. 2:1—7. And that is where I will pick up with commentary on the condition of the Seven Churches and where we may or may not fit into the warnings.
Please read Revelation 1:1 – 3:22. Then consider each one.
